My husband and I stayed at this hotel recently. We only stayed for two nights, but we would have liked it to be more. The hotel is run by a very friendly couple, Len who is British, and his lovely Mallorcan wife Francesca. The room we stayed was at the top of the hotel, affording it beautiful views from both sides of the room, across the countryside at one side, and looking over the beautiful village church and countryside at the other. The room was very clean and comfortable, furnished in a traditional Mallorcan style. The hotel only has 6 rooms, ours had a very good sized balcony which we enjoyed sitting out on looking over the view. We stayed in room 6. Breakfast was served in the garden, but there is also a small breakfast room for winter months. The breakfast was buffet style, with cheeses, cold meats, yoghurt, breads etc and Francesca's home made plum jam was yummy.
The hotel is in a small village which is not at all commercialised. There are 2 or 3 restaurants in the village including Len and Francesca's, which we ate at one night. The food was very nice, it is a set menu and is good value.
We would definitely stay at this hotel again, and fully recommend it. The only people who should avoid the hotel are those who cannot climb stairs, as the hotel is an old, beautifully converted house, and therefore the rooms are accessed via stairs, and there cannot be a lift.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Sa Bisbal occupies a building of significant architectural interest. It was constructed in the XVII century, being located in the most privileged place of Selva, at the top of the town next to the gothic church of Sant Llorenç which itself dates from the year 1301. For a long time the building was the residence of noble families of Majorca. The actual owner has restored all the building giving back all its character and original splendour. Some of the more remarkable architectural elements include the portal fora constructed with perfectly fitted stone blocks and the original cub de vi, which was used for the fermentation of the grape in producing wines. In the cellar excavated in the rock, the wine was stored in barrels. The stone stairs are one of the oldest and most valuable architecturally enchanting elements of the house. In keeping with the Majorcan gothic style, Sa Bisbal retains in its large windows the conopial carved stone arcs. In the patio is the aljub, a characteristic element of the Mediterranean culture, which still today collects rainwater. Sa Bisbal has six rooms and each is unique in both its design and decoration. They have all the amenities - bathroom, air conditioning and heating, TV, and have varying views of the Serra de Tramuntana, the north coast of the island and the neighbouring villages. Room 1 is a twin bedded room and is accessed from the garden and terrace. Room 2 (junior suite) is more spacious and has two balconies on the facade. Its decor is elegant. The views from this room are spectacular covering the entire north coast of the island and the sea, and up to 4 villages. This room has a double bed. Room 3 (junior suite) is also very spacious, with a double bed and has its own terrace overlooking the garden, the neighbouring church and the Serra de Tramuntana. Room 4, with its wood beamed ceiling looks over the garden. It has twin beds. Room 5 is a little smaller, but very cosy, with a double bed and enjoys wonderful views. Room 6 (junior suite) has a double bed and is on the top floor of the house. A feature is its wooden mansard roof and large windows with views to the Serra de Tramuntana and the bell tower of the Church. It has its own terrace. A buffet breafast is served between 8am and 10am in our restaurant, Es Portal de Tramuntana, which is in the main square, just 50 metres or so from the hotel. ... more less
