I wanted somewhere for a weekend break in the height of summer, away from the family holiday crowds. Hostal Jeni fitted the bill perfectly. The airport bus dropped me off outside the hotel. It has a pool and the village is typically Spanish - village square, children's playground, tapas bars and restaurants, with a smattering of ex-pat Brits. I booked a single room but was upgraded to a double. However, this would have been really small for 2 people! For me it was good. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very popular with locals, especially at lunch time. The restuarants in the village were more to my taste - I had some very good fresh fish. El Toro is behind the hotel - a good walk up the road, with great views from the top. Fornals is a short bus ride away if you want the seaside. Excellent value hotel

I can't rate this place highly enough, friendly helpful English speaking staff (though I tried to use my limited Spanish as much as possible) Arrived to be immediately upgraded, free wifi, beautiful hotel and room with all the facilities you could ever want and an amazing price! Would definately use again.

Took my mum and dad to stay here for the week, the value was excellent. Emailed ahead as they have mobility problems gave us rooms with big bathrooms and close to the lift on first floor ideal. The pool is small but serviceable my dad (80) has a disability but the ramp into the pool was ideal for him to be able to get in and out.
The staff are so helpful and friendly, good bar area used by locals. Coffee strong and smooth, drank lots of it. Food menu was good values and three course set meal available for € 10 .
Hotel in the centre of town so ideal for a wander lots of good bars, amazing bakery for breakfast and resturants on hand. Visit C'an Olga resturant in the town not cheap but the food and service were superb.
Great place to stay to get around the island right in the middle. Views of Mount Torres from the first floor rooms. Rooms themselves basic but very clean, good shower and small fridge.
Parking right outside, small market on a Thursday.
How this is a only a one Starr I shall never know.

Stayed here 4 nights in Oct. on full board. I had booked a single but was upgraded to a junior suite with a double bed. Room was big, plenty of storage, lamps and sockets. Bathroom had a bidet but no bath, decent shower cubicle. Mini fridge and a/c though I didn't use it - days were warm but nights were comfortably cool. My only gripe about my particular room overlooking the covered pool was the noisy extractor fan for the kitchen. Reception, bar and restaurant share the same large area as you enter the Jeni. Food was good, breakfast especially with featherlite croissants and I don't normally eat those things, coffee was black and strong, juice was straight from cartons none of that stuff diluted in buckets, there was also a toaster. Watermelon slices were a juicy treat as well. I was a bit surprised to note that cheese and sliced meats were not covered and there were pesky flies around but Montezuma didn't inflict any revenge on me. Lunch and dinner on the set menu had a choice and changed every day with a starter the same size as the main course! Everything was clean, towels were changed daily, staff were always smiling and helpful though sign language was necessary sometimes as my Spanish is limited. Car parking was available in the street which was quite wide not like Barcelona where I had a nightmare week and won't be going there again! The Jeni is favoured by the locals and mainland Spanish but everybody was polite and smiley. Overall the Jeni was of a higher standard than quite a few 3 star places that I have stayed in around Europe

Room Tip: Avoid rooms overlooking the pool - that kitchen extractor fan was harsh on the ear and it fires up a...

My Husband and I always try and stay here when we visit the Island. It is a lovely family run hotel (hostal in Spanish terms, but definately do not confuse with English meaning), and the staff are always very helpful and accommodating. We always try and get a High Room, which features a nice size bathroom, a separate seating area and a large double bedroom with a partition if you need one. It is always very clean and you can have a very relaxing time in Mercadal with the bars and restaurants on your doorstep. Son Bou beach is a 15-20 min drive away and Mahon about 25 mins. Definately worth a visit.

Room Tip: High room if you can get one.

My wife and I stayed at the Jeni for four nights in late April 2012. We were very pleased with many aspects of this hotel. We received a complimentary upgrade to a junior suite with a Juliet balcony at the front of the hotel overlooking the main street of Es Mercadal. The room was impeccably clean, quiet and comfortable, a little small perhaps but we did pay only 50 Euros per night. The buffet breakfast proved remarkably good: cooked fresh eggs, toast, fruit and fruit juice, jam, croissants, pastries, cheese, meats and bread. The service was excellent and friendly in this family run and obviously popular local hotel. The hotel has a covered pool area and a friendly local bar for day or evening times. A great short stay.

In the evening we wanted to experience Es Mercadal so ate out, 2 nights at Sa Taberneta and 1 night at Tast, the first a tapas bar, the second a more upmarket restaurant. Both gave superb service and excellent freshly prepared food – well recommended.

Room Tip: pay for a suite
