our son got marries on 25th Aug in north Mayo. my wife and I decided that we would spend some time going back home to Cork, so i booked this months ago and was told by Jane, the proprietor, that she would charge €35 / night PPS and we booked two nights. when we went to pay her she charged €40 / night PPS (€160) and wouldn't accept a credit card and suggested that we go into Barna to the ATM and get her cash and said that prices have gone up since then. There was very little selection for the breakfast and even on our first morning she didn't even have a tomato. the bedroom was too small for a double and a single bed. it was by far the worst B&B on our trip home

We arrived on a stormy Sunday night and were greeted by our lovely hostess Joan at the front door. We fortunately discovered this absolutely charming B&B on Galway Bay, by chance. As this was our first adventure to Ireland from Canada, Joan made us feel most welcome and right at home. Her place was immiculate and tastefully furnished, we were delighted with our cozy ocean view room. As we had booked a couple of tours, Joan went out of her way to make sure we had a taxi to hook us up with our tour bus the following day in Galway. The Irish breakfast was amazing, we highly recommend this
B& B. We were in walking distance to many nice restaurants and pubs. Be sure to try O'Grady's on the waterfront, you won't be disappointed. Thank you for such wonderful memories, Joan!

Room Tip: Ask for the room with a view!

we had a family room; the room was way too small for 4 people. especially when we opened our 4 suitcases on the floor, we had trouble walking in the room. extremely small bathroom and shower with unstable water temperature. the beds were uncomfortable because you could feel the wires of the electric blankets underneath the sheets. limited breakfast selection--only traditional irish breakfast and pancakes. host was only okay; seemed friendly on the surface in the beginning but appeared very upset when we ringed her for assistance the second time. she also sounded weird when she said "thank you" when we were checking out, as if her "thank you" was only to force me to have to thank her in return. all this for $220 a night in total. would definitely NOT recommend. stay away from here.

This Inn is very close (walk) to 2 very excellent restaurants where we had dinner on 2 consecutive evenings.
Marvelous choice of breakfast fare and the owner is quite a delight. Very clean place although dated decor which is what I wanted. Owner washes linens right there and hangs them out on the clothesline in the back of the Inn. Short taxi in to Galway where we spent the day.

Room Tip: I would say a room at the back would have a view of the water. .

Comfort? Check. Warm, wonderful, Immaculately clean, and scenery for miles. Check. We were once b&b owners and have traveled all over the world. You won't go wrong staying at the Freeport House Bed and Breakfast. 5 star without a doubt.
