“High quality and very unusual. Very good place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 October 2013

This high quality modern hotel has been built and equipped to a very high and expensive standard. Definitely worth being here.
Service was very good indeed and the menus gave an unusual choice of really excellent food. The restaurant was shut when we stayed but the bar eating area was big and atmospheric and we enjoyed it.
Not cheap on drinks but it's not a cheap place - that's elsewhere if you want it.
Noticeable also were the very attractive metal sculptures dotted around the place. Again, these lent a feeling of high quality to the place.
We really liked this place and would stay here again.

Room Tip: High class and unusual. Definitely worth staying here for the surroundings and the cuisine.

The hotel is in a good location, although you will definitely need a car. Our room was very comfortable, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had a problem with hot water on our last morning, which was dealt with very efficiently - coffee and tea were quickly sent up to our room, another room was made available for us to shower, and our bill was reduced to compensate for the inconvenience. The hotel has an excellent bar, and bistro, as well as a more formal restaurant (which we didn’t have the opportunity to try - this time). The only improvement I would suggest would be in the lighting, which, both in the room, and particularly on the stairs to the room, was quite dim.

Was not very overly impressed with our stay at the Twelve hotel. First thing we noticed we got to our room was that the rubbish bin was not emptied. We were both woken up at 7 due to noise from delivery truck. Room obviously is far from sound room. The room itself is quite worn and tired looking. Overall this hotel is 2 or 3 star quality but they certainly know how to market themselves.

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. From the attentive, personalable staff, to the Spa (heaven!) and the food in both bar and West, we loved every moment. The room was fantastic, the bar with barstools in room, gorgeous comfy bed and couches, mood lighting, personalised plate with tasters on arrival...it was a glorious weekend and TBH cannot wait to return!

While the Twelve is a nice hotel, the managing director, Fergus, is a nightmare to deal with. On our initial meeting with him, he only introduced himself me and stood talking to the me with his back to my wife . He was so busy making the sell that he did not bother listening to our requirements. In the end, we went with having our dinner party at O'Grady's on the Pier and post-dinner drinks in the Twelve. Over 30 of our guests were staying at the Twelve. Despite having been told that a band plays every Saturday night, when we returned to the Twelve, there was no band and the area cordoned off for our party was set for breakfast. The staff on duty did not know why there was no band. After three days, Fergus eventually returned our call. He said he cancelled the band because we would not be able to hear each other talk over the band. I put it to him that he should have had the courtesy to ring us to ask what we preferred and that this was just a cheap attempt at saving c200e.

All in all, I would not recommend the Twelve for a group booking or wedding based on our experience with the managing director, Fergus. That said, the accomodation manager, waiting staff and another manager that we met on Sunday were very pleasant and professional to deal with.

Dear Mahaffy,
I'll begin by saying that it's a shame vindictive reviews are allowed on this site. But not only that, it's a shame I cannot actually address you by your name so that everyone reading this knows who you are.

Anyway, after much consideration, I have decided to keep this as short as possible in the interest of our readers. The longer my response, the more of the page it takes up. Thankfully, you rated our team and service highly. Your one and only complaint is very personally directed at myself. The Twelve is far greater than the sum of its parts. It is everything and everyone about it that makes it so special and I am just a cog in its wheel. Thank you Mahaffy for mentioning how great everyone else on my team were. However, they were quiet upset by your group.

Onwards to brevity - you lied about the circumstances of your booking. You had booked your wedding dinner on the pier long before you booked rooms with us. I could not facilitate both of your demands to take over half of our restaurant for drinks after your dinner on the pier. I have to take care of all of my guests: both staying with us as well as our many, many loyal regulars. You know the truth about all of the other details you have lied about here. Brevity as well as decency dictates I will not go into them (One note however - if you truly had that number of rooms booked, then we will have to invoice you for what was not paid for ! )

In closing, I'll state that this form of behaviour does no justice to these forums. I abhor having to respond in this medium. Thankfully, the 700 reviews below paint a pretty clear picture of how my team and I manage a hotel.

Once again, i am sorry i could not accommodate your demands. Despite everything, I wish you both the best.

Fergus and Team

Stayed here recently as part of a trip around Ireland. Great rooms, comfortable bed and helpful staff. Breakfast was included and very tasty. Loved the funky lift! Also ate in the on site restaurant which had decent food and was reasonably priced.
