We celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary this weekend. We travelled to Galway city Saturday morning and spent a lovely day in the city wandering around the shops, market and eating. We travelled the 10 minutes out to Bearna and arrived at the hotel at about 4pm. I had booked a standard room but my husband surprised me by upgrading us to an unbelievable suite! See the pics included to get a proper idea. HUGE jacuzzi and a double shower (minus points for poor shower pressure but we'll get over that!). All Voya products in the bathroom and big soft towels Some up-to-date magazines, great Wifi as well as a kitchen area with a microwave and fresh water. The bed was huge and very comfortable. There was a little bit of on street noise but it didn't go on long. I loved how private this hotel was. We didn't have to interact with anyone all weekend.
We decided to eat in Mulberry restaurant outside of the hotel so I can't comment on the dinner but breakfast was the nicest I've ever had. At first I was disappointed as the buffet was only fruit, yoghurt and some breads but then I saw the menu and was told we could pick anything we wanted from it. I had eggs benedict and then the pancakes which were just gorgeous. My husband really went all out and had smoked salmon with eggs benedict, pancakes AND french toast with bacon. The service we were given was super and our coffee was topped up throughout. Lots of morning papers at hand too. The only thing I didn't like was that an obviously senior member of staff stood right beside us and gave a bit of an ear-full to a junior member of staff about things he wasn't doing right. We could have done without having to listen to this and it was a bit unprofessional but that was the only bad thing about the whole breakfast. Oh there was lovely freshly squeezed orange juice too.
While in Bearna I went for a lovely coastal run and then after we checked out we headed back into Salthill for a long walk on the beach. I'm pregnant so I wanted to stay somewhere a little more laid back than the usual places I would stay in Galway city and this was just perfect. Thanks to all at The Twelve Hotel!
