“Glorious”
Reviewed 12 June 2014 via mobile

Stunning location near Hadrian's Wall with glorious views. Beautifully appointed and all sorts of extras to ensure comfort plus a chef cooking brilliant breakfasts. Images on the web currently simply don't do it justice. A fantastic place to stay for all. Highly recommended for walkers, cyclists and regular motorists too.

My husband and I walked Hadrian's Wall over 10 days with arrangements made by Contours Walking Tours. One of their accommodations was Hunter Crook Lodge. We can't say enough. We were picked up at the end of the day and dropped off again in the morning by Robin, the owner. In between, Robin prepared a most delicious dinner (a vegetarian dish for me and a steak and ale pie for my husband). His wife, Julia, was solicitous and warm, and has done a great job of decorating. Additionally, Hunter Crook, has an assortment of animals (as pets), lots of green space, and is very near Chesters. It was a wonderful experience.

I stayed here for two weeks whilst digging at nearby Vindolanda and had a wonderful time - from the Easter bunny left for me, to great food, wonderful views.....and even a badger watch thrown in. Robin and Julie are excellent hosts, welcoming without smothering, always helpful and thoughtful but also leaving you with time to enjoy the wonderful views from the shared upstairs diner/lounge/balcony. The room was lovely too. I was even sent packing with some fresh eggs! Looking forward to some damson gin on my next visit.

Wonderful accommodation beautiful lodge with luxury rooms, contemporary bathrooms and nice homely touches. Lovely hearty food cooked by Robin just what we needed after our Hadrian Wall trekathon. They kindly dropped us off at the start of our walk and picked us up afterwards. Thank you Robin & Julie. We will return Clare, Bernie & Gabby.

Robin was the owner and he picked us up on the walk and drove us to his place. First class -- brand new! Very clean! Robin was the chef and the food was excellent -- roast beff and Yorkshire pudding. Dessert was a great chocolate cake. Plus Robin is a very entertaining host! Loved it!

As soon as we arrived we understood why Huntercrook received such raving reviews. Julie and Robin could not do enough for us. Tea, coffee and home made biscuits on arrival, even though Julie had just arrived home from work!! The setting is wonderful, views over the rolling hills. Ducks, geese sheep and Rosie & Archie the little black pigs (so cute). The accommodation is on the ground floor and is finished to a very high standard. Upstairs is the kitchen where you will eat the superb meals prepared and cooked by Robin. We would defiantly recommend a stay at Huntercrook and will certainly return in the future.

We were made to feel very welcome. The lodge has a very good view, the bed was very comfortable and everything was perfectly setup. Robin is a good cook, you will have a great breakfast to start your day. If you are planning to visit the national park nearby, you should consider staying here!
