This used to be a pukka Indian restaurant hidden away in the Forest of Dean, which my sister and I tried a few years ago on the recommendation of another restaurant which was fully booked. By "pukka Indian" I mean it was at that time authentic Indian food (as opposed to the usual Bangladeshi fare). However, it must have changed hands in the intervening years, as it's now a Chinese restaurant, but still in the fairly dingy back room of a pub, as one of the other reviewers has said. Whilst that was quite appealing when the food was so different and so good, it's less so now it's a Chinese serving standard British Chinese restaurant fare. The food's still good, but in my opinion no longer worth a ten to twelve mile drive at night through the Forest of Dean's sometimes tortuous roads.
But if you like Chinese food and are in the area, give it a try.

There has been no change of ownership at this back water pub in ten years, the only thing that has changed is the cuisine. The pizzas were amazing. Yes the Indian was fantastic and the Chinese was British Chinese. But now there is no dingy back bar restaurant at The Forge Hammer. I find it quite offending that you use other reviewers comments to support your review.

Went here after recommendation on website. Looked a bit dodgy from outside and when we walked in. It was a saturday and was really empty so we we were a bit dubious.

They haven't really bothered trying to make it look like a chinese restaurant at all (basically looks like a back room of a pub) but the main reason we were there was to eat and the food was great. Very tasty, reasonably priced, not too greasy and service was also very good.

I would recommend this restaurant for the food.

Brilliant what a little hidden gem. Don't be put off by the exterior. If we hadn't been told about it you wouldn't even know it was there. Friendly helpful staff, service excellent, excellent value .
