We arrived by bike in Rorshach and we had to ask for directions to the hotel Roessli. It's on the main street (Hauptstrasse), close to the Kornhaus and lakeside, but not in an attractive area of the town. The receptionist was very pleasant and friendly, and gave us brief directions to our room.
The hotel appears to consist of a number of adjoining buildings and so has a peculiar lay-out. Our room seemed to be in a two-storey extension at the back of the hotel. The corridors and staircase were rather grubby. Our room was quite shabby and in need of redecoration, but was not dirty. Nothing matched: the bedside lamps, the wall colour, the carpet. We were pleased that our room had a balcony, but on going out on to it, we found that the tables and chairs set out on it were rather dirty. The balcony itself was only a little above the small courtyard, and was overlooked by other bedrooms.
In contrast, the bathroom looked as if it had been recently refurbished and to a surprisingly high standard. It was spotless.
Breakfast the next morning was limited.
