We arrived by bike in Rorshach and we had to ask for directions to the hotel Roessli. It's on the main street (Hauptstrasse), close to the Kornhaus and lakeside, but not in an attractive area of the town. The receptionist was very pleasant and friendly, and gave us brief directions to our room.
The hotel appears to consist of a number of adjoining buildings and so has a peculiar lay-out. Our room seemed to be in a two-storey extension at the back of the hotel. The corridors and staircase were rather grubby. Our room was quite shabby and in need of redecoration, but was not dirty. Nothing matched: the bedside lamps, the wall colour, the carpet. We were pleased that our room had a balcony, but on going out on to it, we found that the tables and chairs set out on it were rather dirty. The balcony itself was only a little above the small courtyard, and was overlooked by other bedrooms.
In contrast, the bathroom looked as if it had been recently refurbished and to a surprisingly high standard. It was spotless.
Breakfast the next morning was limited.

We visited this hotel together with our one year old.
Rossli is an average hotel. Our room was nice light and spacious. The hotel staff were very friendly and their english was good. We were not impressed by the dinner that was served for our halfboard. it was simple not very qualitative and very salty food. We had asked for a babybed, which they had, but unfortunately during dinner they mentioned they didn't had a baby chair, which we didn't expect for a hotel with a babybed. Luckily the lady at the breakfast mentioned that she had one, so for breakfast we were happy to use it.

I always stay at this hotel when I am in Altenrhein to do business at Altenrhein Aviation. It is located within easy walking distance of St. Gallen - Altenrhein Airport. But there is no aircraft noise, because the aircraft take off and land over the lake, not over the area where the hotel is.

This is a small hotel - about 20 rooms - in a historical building that is located right on the very edge of Lake Constance. The rooms have been renovated and modernized, and the result is a very solid 3 star hotel, fully acceptable for business travel. Wireless internet service is fast and free throughout the hotel. Parking is free, directly across the street from the hotel. The train station (Staad) is about 500 meters away from the hotel. The airport is about 1 km away.

Room sizes and room designs vary from room to room, so, if it is important to you that you have a large work desk, or a double bed, or a quiet room, or a room on the lower floor of the hotel (there is no elevator), then be sure to mention your preferences when you make your reservation. Rooms on the sea-view side of the hotel are quieter than rooms that overlook the street. The hotel is frequently fully booked by 'regulars', so it is a good idea to make a reservation well ahead of time (7 to 10 days ahead seems to be sufficient).

This hotel is especially well suited to families who are travelling with small children. The owner's family includes several elementary school age children, and there are lots of areas for the children of guests to safely play on the hotel grounds - for example, swings, a sandpit, table tennis games, things like that. There are also lots of games and toys for the '12 and under' crowd available near the dining rooms.

The best part of this hotel is the kitchen. The hotel is what is called a 'Gastro-Hotel' in Switzerland, which means that the business is primarily known for the quality of the food - the hotel rooms themselves are a convenience for guests who come to eat the food. The food is superb, and the service is excellent. There is certainly no need to leave the property to eat if you stay in this hotel! In the summertime, if the weather is nice, you can eat your meals outside, right at the water's edge. In the wintertime, the multiple dining rooms all offer a nice view of the Bodensee (Lake Constance)

Almost all the staff who work at the hotel and in the restaurant. are multilingual (English, German, French, etc.), which means that unilingual English speaking guests will feel right at home. The family that owns the property works there every day, and you will soon get to know the owners. They are very kind to guests, and offer excellent hospitality and a warm welcome.

All in all, this is one of the nicest small hotels that I get to stay in during my business travels. I highly recommend it to other business travellers.

Room Tip: Sea-view rooms are quieter. If you need a room with a large desk for work, mention this when you ma...

The Rossli Hotel is a small family hotel near Lake Constanza. Hotel is modest, but kindly and clean. The breakfast was very modest always. But the prize was acceptable.
