Spent a week at the end of June and start of July at the Katerina. Delighted with our choice and found it to be a bright, clean and comfortable hotel in a quiet location. The staff are friendly and helpful. Daily room service and regular changes of towels and linen. The facilities are basic but this mirrors the majority of hotels in the resort and it's location and style are far better in my opinion.. The pool is first class and kept spotless.
The hotel is no more than 5 minutes away from the beach and up a gentle hill which would only cause problems to those who really struggle to walk. It is not in a clutter of other hotels and restaurants which is common in the resort. All the rooms face over the pool and you won't be bothered by traffic noise or other tourists.
Breakfast was fine with a good choice but be aware this is Greece and you won't be getting a full cooked plateful. Cereal, fruit, yoghurt, ham, cheese and bread are the order of the day along with coffee and tea.
All the rooms have a sea view and balconies with a table and two chairs. Plenty of room to sit out, have a drink and enjoy the sunset. There are 3 floors and the hotel is in an L shape. Those rooms in the longer portion catch the sunrise and have it till early evening. The other rooms have the best sea view but didn't catch the morning sun until around 8.30am. Better for a long lie in bed! All the rooms have air conditioning which was included in the price. If thinking about other hotels beaware that they advertise air conditioned rooms but look for a further fee to use it. Some as much as 50euros a week. All the rooms have a fridge, kettle, cups and glasses. The television only showed Greek channels
The hotel will do snacks during the day and drinks in the evening. We were pleasantly surprised at the drink prices which are cheaper than the bars and restaurants in the main street. It was quiet when we were there and we only really used the bar after returning from a meal.
Plenty of books available to exchange and there is a PC but didn't use it.
If you are going to stay in Aghia Marina I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel. Just remember you are not going to a Boutique Hotel with designer bathrooms and free slippers.
