I read all the reviews on this hotel and so chose it for my one night on Aegina. It was clean, the proprietors (Maria & John) were very friendly and helpful. But it is very basic accommodation. If you are on a budget then this is the place to stay, however the rooms are very small, the bathroom is tiny and (in my room) the only opening was the door to the balcony so when I had to shut this due to the mosquitoes it was like being in a small airless box. There is air conditioning and this does work - much better than the plug in mosquito repellent pads. Breakfast was provided and it was OK: lots of cereals, breads & biscuits, some fruit & yoghurt, hard boiled eggs, cheese & ham.

Room Tip: My room faced the marina but on a Saturday night, with hotels on each side and a huge wedding, the noise was very bad. I don't think any of the rooms would be better than others, but I'd recommend one of the upstairs ones.

We read the trip advisor's reviews before we chose our hotel and can now say, having experienced the Hotel Rachel for ourselves, we agree with all those who loved staying there, Yiannis and his sister Maria efficiently run a lovely, friendly small hotel minutes from the sea and in the other dreiction from the ferry - so your Greek 'experience' begins immediately. Rachel is a basic hotel, but the rooms are spotless, the breakfast is more than enough for anyone's needs and Mari and Yiannis can't do enough to help, if needed. The town is fading slightly due to a drop in tourism, but the people are friendly, beaches are good - incredibly safe for children, quirky shops, great super market and if your are lusting for a tradintional Greek Taverna, complete with traditional Greek back-ground music, tables on the rocks right next to the sea, they are in abundance. Agena is good for singles, couples and families and the Rachel caters for all. Trevor and Karen

Room Tip: Ask for one on the first floor at the back.

We stayed only for a weekend but was a great place to relax after a day on the sun.
Rooms were fine, the hotel is in the center and close to the beach.
John and Maria are truly fine peoples and very kind.John helped us with the car rental and he agreed to let us stay 4 ours over the check-out time until the ferry departure time.
And Maria clothes were perfect fitted for us :)
We'll be back every year!

Room Tip: All the rooms are OK

The hotel is perfectly located: 30 meters from the beach of AG Marina & 60 meters from port AG Marina. The service quality is surprisingly high:
breakfast with over 40 dishes
free driving to Temple Aphia
free beach umbrellas, etc
free medicines for headache, etc.
free greek coffees some time
I will definitely stay also in Rachel next time.

Our stay at Hotel Rachel was fantastic, Maria and John were very helpful and if we needed anything it was never any bother. They have a lot of good information about the island which was very helpful and they helped us plan trips around the island and the best ways of getting around the island too. They also told us about the Temple in Agia Marina and how to get there and back down to the town. Our room was perfect, good size, cleaned daily and had a fridge and tv too. We had a blacony which was wonderful and it was lovely sitting outside on it in an evening just relaxing with a drink. We were minutes away from the beach which was great and Maria and John supplied lots of beach things like mats and umbrellas so that you don't have to pay for them on the beach. Once you get to the island you can either take a taxi or a bus over to Agia marina, I will warn you that there are only three buses a day if you are going earlier in the season and we were lucky and caught the last bus by fifteen minuets at 2.30pm. The bus is cheaper than a taxi but if you are leaving for the boat early then you can ask John or Maria and they will happily book you a taxi, it cost us about 15euros from Agia marina to Aegina town. Breakfast at the hotel was great, there was lots to choice from and it did fill you up ready for the day a head. I would aslo recommend 'Big Banana' which is a lovely resturant not far from Hotel Rachel, they are a lovely couple and have great food!! we went there many times and can't wait to go back! Our stay at hotel Rachel was fabulous and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Agia Marina, it has a friendly and relax environment, perfect location and great people that run it, John and Maria become good friends and you can ask them for any help or advice that you need!! Have a lovely stay here :D

Room Tip: Book a room with a balcony, you will love it :)
