“No frills, economical, safe and convenient”
Reviewed 26 October 2011

This hotel is so handy to the station, I could walk it even with heavy luggage. The room was clean and spacious and the staff were friendly. The town has some tourist interest - cathedral featuring a decapitated patron saint and bones on display, good general shopping as well as outlet shopping, and good eateries - and it's only 13 minutes by train from Parma.

Be aware though that it's a budget hotel with minimum services. This is the first hotel I've encountered that doesn't have a regular guest laundry service. You have to ask at the desk.

For no-frills, economical accommodation that's safe and convenient, this would be hard to beat.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the west side unless you appreciate heavy night club music.

If you're looking for 5-star accommodations, keep looking, but if it's cleanliness, friendly staff, perfect location and good food, look NO further. Hotel Astoria is located right off of the piazza, has a wonderful restaurant next door, simple but delicious breakfasts, and internet. We stayed there for 9 days and the rates were second to none. There is a club across the street if you want some night life, but ask for another room on the other side of the hotel if you want peace and quiet. It didn't bother me, we watched from the window. After breakfast, we would walk into town to shop, eat lunch at a cafe, stop for gelato...everything you needed or wanted to see was within walking distance. We had 10 other family members staying there as well, and their rooms were like mine-spacious, clean and comfortable. Each room has a stocked mini fridge, hairdryer and stand-up shower. It is also very close to the train station and the bus stop to the outlet mall, FIdenza Village. We would stay there again and hope to as soon as possible.

The hotel was doing an excellent deal of 155.00 euros per person for a 2 night stay (fri-sun) with two nights dinner and breakfast. We went with another couple and in contrast the rooms were very different. Our room was very spacious with a massive bathroom and a bath to fit 2 comfortably. Our friends room was much smaller with a piddly bathroom. Being next to the railway station was not a problem and no noise was heard from the trains. The 1st night we had dinner in the hotel restuarant which is next door to the hotel. Starter was amazing. I had butternut squash gnochi which was just devine. Main course was a bit of a disaster simply because of the language barrier. My boyfriend and I thought we had ordered scallops and had in fact ordered escalopes of veal!! A big disappointment as we dont eat meat and the waiter could not understand the problem!! Breakfast was basic continental and the staff were very unhelpful if you arrived at breakfast within 30 mins of breakfast ending. 'Not, possible -Kitchen closed' was a much used phrase, even though there was still 30 mins to go!! The 2nd nights dinner was in a real castle, which was amazing, 7 courses and even the wine bill for 4 only came to a mere 10 euros. The reception staff were very helpful and spoke very good english. The location of the hotel was good to, everything within walking distance and cabs available right outside. Part of the deal on this hotel break was free bus and tram rides and a 4 hour (electric) bike hire, although we did not use these as we walked everywhere and my boyfriend thought i might be a liability on the bike!! A good hotel for the money and a good location.

  • Liked — Big bathroom and bath.
  • Disliked — Room was abit stuffy at night.
  • Tips/Secrets — Ask to look at a couple of vacant rooms before choosing as they varied alot.

Hotel is a stone's throw from the train station, which is convenient. Hotel facilities are quite nice, clean, spacious. Breakfast was good. Staff, however, is neither helpful nor friendly, though they speak excellent English. Tourist office staff was very helpful, and we found it easy to tour the CFL Parmesan cheese factory from here - just a short ride by taxi.
The downtown area and Duomo are only a 10 or 20 minute walk.
