Another business trip made easier by Premier Inn.
Ipswich North has an interesting location nestled down by the side of the A14. Access couldn't be easier as it is quite literally 60 seconds off the dual carriageway. You'd not think so though as the only noise I could hear most of the time was the tweeting of birds. Somewhat of a surprise!
There's plenty of car parking spaces (a good 50% of which seemed to be taken by company vans on this occasion!) and the welcome at reception was the usual pleasant one provided by Premier Inn staff. I must have timed the trip with some form of charity event as the staff were dressed in Onesies! One of the vans woke me at 5.30am with work men opening it up and talking very loudly outside my room window, but it wasn't the type of thing I'd claim on the goodnight guarantee for because these things can happen anywhere.
My room was at the very end of a long corridor but was up to the normal standards I've come to expect. Clean, spacious, large flat screen TV on the fall, sofa (chaise style) and a reasonably modern bathroom. The only downside I had (and the reason this one is 4 stars and not 5) is that the water pressure was very low, making for a somewhat less than refreshing shower experience. It wasn't low enough to stop the shower being acceptable, but it was much lower than any I've encountered recently.
WiFi connectivity and speed (an important aspect for me) was good. This is even more important in an area where 3G connectivity seemed to be impossible (I often use a tablet or phone on 3G but had to connect both to the excellent Premier Inn Wifi service instead).
Somebody decided to play their car stereo ridiculously loud outside from 9.15pm to around 10pm, something I've never encountered before but it would only have been an issue had they continued and I don't hold Premier Inn responsible for this at all. It might have been a little more disconcerting if I was staying with children at that time of night.
If you need any forgotten trip items then you'll find an Asda at the next junction of the A14 too - quite literally 2 minutes in the car.
One final thing though - I would be very unlikely to stay here in the summer months. For some reason, despite it only being 15-16 degrees outside the corridors on the first floor were incredibly warm. I opened my room window to let a bit of heat out too and it did cool down (I'd checked the heater wasn't on) but the corridors just felt very hot indeed. I do watch out for A/C on Premier Inn's and try to book them in the warmer months because they do always seem a little on the warm side and I've no idea why. This particular hotel has the units on the walls but it is not full A/C - it only heats the room and the Premier Inn website does tell you this. So just be aware of it if you're booking for a summer stay.
Thoroughly recommended though and my points are more for completeness than they are in criticism.
