“Business meal in private room for 29 - very good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014 via mobile

Chose Kesgrave Hall for our annual department conference as they have a room that seats 20-30.

A set multiple choice menu that needs to be chosen and provided two weeks in advance. Room has a 50" with HDMI and SVGA that we used for slides. Plenty of space for welcome drink at the bar but quite long waits for some.

Everything that you would expect was provided. Barring a bit of a wait between starter and main the event flowed well. All 29 appeared pleased with their food (no neg feedback).

Summary - £4 to £5 more costly per head than competitors but better food and surroundings. We will enquire about another larger event that we hold in October

“Very Ordinary in Wonderful Grounds.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2014 via mobile

Lunched today at Milson Kesgrave was a little disappointing. Especially after driving through the wonderful entrance and grounds to get there.

In arriving we weren't greeted or shown to a table. "Find a table" we were told. A bit like being in an M&S cafe!

We were asked what we would like to drink, and I got "oh, you want a pint of bitter?" when I asked for a lemon lime and bitters.

No one came to take our order. It transpired that we needed to write our order on a piece of paper and take it and give it to one of the staff. Sadly no one thought to tell us this was the system.

I ordered calves liver which was cooked nicely with good flavour, however the choice of cuts or preparation left a lot to be desired as I was forced to deal with blood vessels and gristle.

But paying the bill provided the final "amusement", and bought into question IQ levels. The waitress brought over the card processing terminal but informed us it might not work as the "wire" didn't reach to our table!!! And eventually the lack of a "wired" connection proved too challenging and we were directed to pay at the bar on the way out.

So great location spoilt by poor quality staff, service and food preparation.

“Hard to fault”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2014 via mobile

We dined twice in the restaurant during our stay at this hotel. Dinner was excellent. We really enjoyed the high energy atmosphere of the busy restaurant and kitchen as well as the unusual system of putting in our own orders via a notepad and pencil on the table. The menu was selection was great and our meals were wonderful. I wish I could have tried all the deserts, but the one I chose was delicious. Breakfast too was a great experience. Like the hotel, this restaurant is a real treat!

“Afternoon tea to beat all others”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

We were on a short break in Suffolk and decided to have afternoon tea at Kesgrave Hall as booking is not necessary.
We were able to park close to the Hall as my wife holds a blue badge and the staff were quick to offer help holding doors open for us to get the wheelchair in.

We went into the light and airy lounge to choose somewhere to sit and I then went to the bar to order the afternoon tea from a cheerful and polite young man.

The food arrived in a short time served by a cheerful and friendly waitress.

The sandwiches were freshly made and consisted of two each of smoked salmon, ham, egg and cream cheese, all delicious.

The plain scones were also freshly made to order and were light and crumbly and came with the usual clotted cream and strawberry jam.

The four pairs of cakes to finish were excellent and were chocolate, coffee and lemon flavoured with a small fruit tart.

All in all it was a very pleasant experience made better by the fact that the sun was shining.

Finally on a non food related matter the toilets were extremely modern and clean.

“A great value - and good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2014

we stopped off here at 3pm on a Thursday before bank Holiday and it was quite busy - so a good atmosphere. The wine list was good, lots of choice, and reasonably priced.
The ordering here is go to the bar and order yourself - which works well.
A good specials menu board - and a lot of choice on the main menu. So the traditional Missoms experience.
I tried the "Smoked Duck" special and the size was like a "taster menu" so disappointed on a value front; my wife had the goats cheese and it was very good. For main course I had the haddock and chips - well presented, well cooked and very enjoyable; my wife had the sea bass and she said it was OK, but not briliant.
Cheese board for dessert was very good as well.
Overall a top end price around £75 for the 2 of us but probably worth it for the special occasion and quality of service and food overall.
We will go back again.
