“Fantastic get away break destination!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2011

The rooms here are absolutely beautiful. They are all decorated in a unique style, there are chalet style rooms that surround Kesgrave Hall with a court yard to have breakfast on those summer mornings or on the terrace over looking the green while the sun sets. This is our second time staying at Kesgrave this time we were in the principal suite within the main building wow!!! What a room perfect, when we arrived we received a warm welcome and was shown to our room, the food is scrumptious and the staff are second to none!!! Can't wait to go back

We loved this room! Sumptupusly decorated, oversized mirrors, black shiny tiles(not usually our style, but maybe why it felt so luxurious) and the bath in the bedroom was amazing- we drank champagne in the bath until the early hours! The hotel staff were very friendly, and accomodating as the hotel we originally booked was sold a month before the wedding and so they transferred us to here, and I think it was even better than the one we wanted! We can't comment on the food, though we have heard it is good, but breakfast was lovely and brought up to us in our room. I've suggested we go back there for a pretend wedding night every year!

We went there this weekend for a January room and meal deal. Reception and check-in fine, nice room (number 10 - large room, with free-standing bath in main room) - Sounds odd, but it was absolutely fine. Room was clean and tidy. We asked for an evening meal table at check-in for 8pm. Went to the bar at 7pm, and made sure that the restaurant waiting staff knew we were there, and at 7.45 reminded them. We were taken straight to our table. It was a busy evening in the restaurant, so would advise people to do the same - they do try to prioritise hotel guests, but best to give them an early 'reminder' that you're there I feel.
Both 3-course meals were good - no complaints. Its a 'bistro' set-up, where you write what you'd like on a note-pad, and hand it to a waiter/waitress (similar operation to the Lion at Boreham). We did the same for our drinks at the table and had no problems. All in all, service staff very good.
Breakfast the following morning was delicious - various choices of cooked or continental style.
I would say that it was a great deal in terms of their January offer for a fixed price hotel room stay, with dinner and breakfast.

Beautifully furnished rooms, relaxed atmosphere, polite and helpful staff made the stay welcoming . the rooms were also very clean. The location of a country retreat added to the whole ambience.

I have been traveling and working in Ipswich for over 3 years now but none of the local hotels seem to fit the bill for various reasons. A work colleague mentioned Milsons Kesgrave Hall and since then i have never looked back. Well presented clean and tidy rooms very quiet, excellent food at reasionable prices and the staff while very friendly also very professional making it a home from home.

Only consider staying here if you get a good deal including breakfast and dinner. We saw this on Mr & Mrs Smith and so our expectations were reasonably high having always been impressed by their recommendations in the past.

The room was freezing cold when we arrived and the heating didn't work. We called reception but after 30 mins of nobody turning up we got fed up and headed to the bar to warm up! Although the rooms are spacious and the beds are great, the rooms are not particularly clean - we had finger marks all over the bathroom mirror and had to call reception for clean wine glasses as the ones in our room were filthy and had clearly not been cleaned since the last few people who had stayed. The reception said they'd bring new ones immediately but these materialised after about 2 hours, by which time we'd got bored and already headed to the bar to get a drink there.

We also asked for some fresh milk (as advertised on the bedside table) and despite waiting for 30 mins for this, it never materialised. After eating in the restaurant that night, the lady on reception who we spoke to said she'd written down a note to bring us some milk but had 'got busy' and therefore not bothered (our room was 30 secs from reception/kitchen). She said she'd get some brought to us but by this point we didn't believe it so waited around to collect it ourselves.

Our newspaper also never arrived (by this point we expected nothing less!) and when we checked out it was sitting at reception, about which the lady made another excuse.

On the plus side, the staff in the restaurant and bar were excellent and the grounds and building are very nice. I had a hair in my dinner that night but the waiter was very apologetic and took it off the bill.

This place is ok for a cheap break but it is not a 'luxury/boutique' hotel as advertised - the little things like cleanliness and service DO matter and are what distinguish an OK hotel from a good or great one.
