“Excellent !!”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

We stayed here over the weekend whilst racing in Cheltenham. The hotel is ideally located and easy to get to. Close to all the " racing " pubs and set in the most beautiful village in the Cotswolds.
We were so pleased with our "suite" having booked a double bedroom we did not expect a separate lounge. ! The rooms were spotless and had every little extra we could have wished for. The breakfast was hot, tasty and plenty of choice. Service was very quick and the staff were very, very pleasant, nothing was too much trouble for them.
We usually self-cater when we visit the races, but I very much doubt after our stay here we will be doing that again. Cannot wait until our next stay !!

We wanted to stay in a small town somewhere in the Cotswolds for our one-year anniversary and this is where we chose. The town itself is very quaint and the Inn is right in the middle of it making it easy to head out for a relaxing walk. We checked in without any worries and our room was a good size. We even received complimentary hot chocolate and cookies in our room which was a nice touch. We are both quite tall and had to be constantly aware of where we were walking as there are lots of low beams! We had a nice drink in the bar downstairs but headed across to the Manor for dinner. Breakfast was delicious and overall we had a very comfortable stay!

We popped in for lunch as we usually do on route to see our son and his wife in stratford, to our shock we noticed tom was back from his short stint away in stow, was shocked to find 2 glasses of bubbly awaiting us both. I had mentioned 3 weeks before it was my wife's 50th birthday, I was so touched that someone would show such a gesture. Stow's Loss is well and truely the slaughters country inn's gain. Such a talent, Attentive, polite and such a asset to the company, that boys going places. Thankyou so much again. Also will is so attentive and from what we could see is such an animal lover, he has all the attributes to become very successful in the future as he progresses up the ladder(maybe gidleigh park). Food was excellent as ever, my wife had the soup(Roasted pumpkin, chilli and ginger) and I had the flat iron, which was just divine and cooked perfect! Thanks again and see you soon.

This was a very enjoyable stay in a beautiful location and I would recommend the hotel to others, there were just a few things however that stopped it getting another star.

Firstly, the room was unbearably hot! I turned the radiator off and had the window wide open all night and I was still too hot in the middle of November! This made sleeping uncomfortable, even though I had a very comfortable king-sized bed. The underfloor heating in the bathroom was sometimes too hot to stand on.

The room had all the necessary amenities but the TV was tiny! It was smaller than a portable, which meant watching TV in bed was a little annoying.

The standard of the food and service was very good both in the restaurant and bar area. However, the booking mechanism in the bar was slightly confusing. We had to book a table in the bar due to demand, which we didn't particularly mind, but when you go into the bar you find that all the tables are reserved but no-one actually sits at them? Others wanted to come in and sit down but couldn't due to the reservations but yet still no-one turned up and when we left the bar at about 8:30 there were still a whole host of reserved tables with no-one sitting at them. This was also true during the afternoon. I'm sure there is a reason for it but I can't think what it might be?

Overall a very enjoyable stay with pleasant staff and very close to getting 4 stars, if I could award half stars then I would have given it three and a half.

Dear DrMothra, I am glad that on the whole you had an enjoyable stay with us.
To answer a couple of your points.
We do reserve tables in our bar area for residents who have chosen to eat in this area,, but we do not allocate them a specific table as we find that personal preference on where to sit is very varied in the bar, so we like to give the guests the choice.
We are indeed enjoying a very mild start to November, but as I am sure you will understand, one persons room being to hot is another’s just right and another’s to cold.
I do hope you will come and enjoy our Inn again, maybe in the summer when all the heating will be off
Best Regards
Stuart

We stayed at this lovely hotel for a 65th birthday treat for my husband. It was a Secret Escapes deal,on arrival we were met by very friendly reception staff, who booked us in then showed us to Cotton Hall, the room we had requested. What a great room, clean, light+airy,a huge very comfortable bed,we could have been at a Alistair Sawday property!
We ate in the hotel,as we got a complimentary glass of bubbly,it was busy but the staff were very quick + efficient. After dinner,we retired to a room with a cosy log fire,to finish our bottle of wine.
Breakfast the next morning was excellent,we thouroughly enjoyed the "Slaughter" experience and hope to return in the future.
