I know this place for some years and stayed there many times, but only because this is one of the rather affordable places around Royston.
It was closed down for a while, so i was quite happy to see it reopened earlier this year and hoped for a change to the better.
There has obviously some work been done in the rooms (at least the one i had), not hard to notice as the place was certainly in need before.
Unfortunately, the new Chef is even worse than the old one. This was probably the most disgusting burger + chips i ever had, this including ready-meal ones from the supermarket. A tiny, mushy + tasteless meat(?) paddy, a totally dry bap and soggy fries are definitely not what i expect at a restaurant.price. It took him ages to make it and the excuse was "it's all made to order" ... Well,.....i've heard a "pling" at some time....not quite sure what ithat was ....
Don't know anything about the breakfast quality as i did not take one there.
I too, have noticed the "bar-kindergarden" which someone else mentioned before and i also think this is rather unprofessional, especially in a place mainly used by business people..
It appeared that the current owner is quite new into this and it may take him a bit of time to get everything running smoothly, so we'll see what the future brings.
Good points are ample free parking, free WiFi, the rooms are ok and rather on the cheap side. so i would use it again, but for dinner i will certainly go somewhere else.
Turning right towards Royston can be quite challenging at peak times as this is a busy main road which also doesn't make it a quiet place at night.
I will give the place another go soon, so fingers crossed.....
