Coach House Hotel
Ranked #8 of 10 Royston B&B and Inns
Reviewed 9 September 2013

I know this place for some years and stayed there many times, but only because this is one of the rather affordable places around Royston.
It was closed down for a while, so i was quite happy to see it reopened earlier this year and hoped for a change to the better.
There has obviously some work been done in the rooms (at least the one i had), not hard to notice as the place was certainly in need before.
Unfortunately, the new Chef is even worse than the old one. This was probably the most disgusting burger + chips i ever had, this including ready-meal ones from the supermarket. A tiny, mushy + tasteless meat(?) paddy, a totally dry bap and soggy fries are definitely not what i expect at a restaurant.price. It took him ages to make it and the excuse was "it's all made to order" ... Well,.....i've heard a "pling" at some time....not quite sure what ithat was ....
Don't know anything about the breakfast quality as i did not take one there.
I too, have noticed the "bar-kindergarden" which someone else mentioned before and i also think this is rather unprofessional, especially in a place mainly used by business people..
It appeared that the current owner is quite new into this and it may take him a bit of time to get everything running smoothly, so we'll see what the future brings.
Good points are ample free parking, free WiFi, the rooms are ok and rather on the cheap side. so i would use it again, but for dinner i will certainly go somewhere else.
Turning right towards Royston can be quite challenging at peak times as this is a busy main road which also doesn't make it a quiet place at night.
I will give the place another go soon, so fingers crossed.....

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are quieter

We arrived at hotel between 3-4pm,courtyard impressive only to find nobody on reception.Check in starts at 2pm....Finally owner came downstairs after being asked by the lady making up the rooms.Customer Service left alot to be desired( Dress code).Showed to room opposite, first impression very small. No welcome pack in room.owner showed no enthusiasm for the accomodation.impressions are that compromises have been made to accomodate more rooms over quality.Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom very small, doorway very awkward.Shower very basic and not overly impressive.Toilet had a very long flush and spluttered afterwards.Tea and coffee making facilities in room good as some places have been do not provide this as standard.T.V not so good as did not have ITV channel.WIFI is non existant. i obtained code from Owner only to be told that it was very intermitant, did not get it at all for our two nights. This was advertised in the specs for the hotel when booked.I feel that these days it should be a standard requirement in Hotels and B&B's,Even if it has to be paid for.The hotel is on a main road and the room comes with no Double Glazing so can only comment on our room but we did hear the traffic with windows closed.Still both slept okay maybe because we live close to a main road ouselves. We ate in the Retaurant on the first night, the food was very ordinary and the salad was not fresh to say the least. The food was at best 1990's Pub food.We did voice our opinion to the Waitress who was very understanding but nothing was done about it, had no contact afterwards from the Chef or the Owner...Good Customer Service Practice?..Maybe being picky but there were young children in the bar area constantly trying to get into the restaurant area which we found annoying somewhat ( we are parents and Grandparents ourselves ).Hasten to add we did not have the breakfast on either morning so cannot possibly comment on the quality of this.Must admit that the location was absolutely ideal for Duxford as we had Tickets for the Airshow, just 10mins drive at the most.to be honest we would not stay here again. Shame as it has alot going for it.

We stayed at this hotel for the Duxford airshow which was excellently situated. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The bed was comfy but the room door lock didn't work properly, the shaver light and bathroom extract fan didn't work. Neither did the tv remote. the evening meal and breakfast on both mornings were accompanied by the family's noisy children and I wasn't too impressed to be served by a gentleman in sports shorts! It all gave rather an unprofessional approach.

We were there for the Duxford Airshow. Very friendly staff, clean room, good food and cool price.

We were lucky to find a room, probably due to old reviews. As already written here, management has changed and that's a great place to stay.

Highly recommended!

Driving back to Norfolk we stopped here by chance and were pleasantly surprised by the helpfulness of the staff and the good sandwiches that were made freshly for us. The place seems a little off the beaten track but well worth stopping at if you are passing.

Picture of the fountain looks nice but rooms are not nice at all and it is certainly too expensive for what you get. The owner is very nice though as is the staff, but it is certainly worth looking around for other better hotels in this price range.

Room Tip: Hotel is ona a busy road thus very load. Try to ask for a bed at the back

Great place to stay for the air show. The staff were great and very accommodating. Food was excellent and the price was right for the time of year. This is under new management and the present owners are making improvements all the time.

Room Tip: Ask for ground floor in the court yard
