We live in Athens and took my family visiting from South Africa to Meteora. I came across Tsikeli on trip advisor. Our stay was wonderful. Rooms were neat and clean. Breakfast was good and the welcome and helpfulness of the family who owns and runs the hotel was five star. Its perfectly located in Kastraki for walks into the village and close to restaurants. - Few minutes to Meteora and Kalambaka. Reasonable rates.

Wonderful hostess and great room with deck and view of mountains. Beds were typical Greek, meaning a bit hard, but all facilities were everything I could want. Local bus is 5 minute walk away and takes you to the monastaries. Great value but we were there before peak season.

Family owners were welcoming and helpful. Room was comfortable and quiet with a view of Meteora. We enjoyed Kastraki more than Kalambaka as it is a charming small village right by Meteora. Hotel is within walking distance of bakeries and tavernas with great food. Easy to get a taxi to Kalambaka or it's a ten minute walk. We were able to walk to the nearest monastery from the hotel. There is a great garden in front to relax in and enjoy the view. We enjoyed our stay very much. Mary M.

Hotel Tsikeli is located in the heart of Meteora, the impressive monastery region in Greece. Although the nearby town of Kalabaka is the typical destination for many visitors to the region, Kastraki retains more of the character of a Greek community and is surrounded by the mountains and monasteries. Hotel Tsikeli is close to the center of the town, making walking convenient. The hotel was a little difficult to locate with our GPS, but it got us to within a couple of blocks and it only took one pedestrian to point it out.
We had a second floor room with a balcony that provided a nice view of the mountains and a few of the monasteries. The room was clean, ample, and affordable. We found the staff helpful and friendly and I was very happy that our hostess seemed to enjoy speaking and assisting me with my limited Greek. We scheduled our trip to coincide with Easter, anticipating some additional activities for that weekend. After the staff helped us plan a tour of the monasteries for the next day, we had dinner and headed to bed. We knew that Easter was a major celebration that included fireworks, but who knew that they start at midnight? We were awakened at 12:00 AM Easter morning with loud fireworks and church bells ringing -- coming from the town center just a few blocks away. By the time we got our door open to the shared balcony, one of our neighbors was already there. As a result, three adults, dressed in PJ’s, enjoyed the celebration together.
On Easter morning, we awoke to a valley full of smoke as residents began their Easter tradition of roasting whole lambs on rotating pits over wood fires. Many front yards contained small groups around the fire, watching the rotating meal and preparing for the feast. Our breakfast at the B&B was a special surprise. In addition to breads, cheeses and meats, we were served decorated dark red hard-boiled eggs. We were delighted.
We stayed two nights and enjoyed the hotel and Kastraki immensely. As we were leaving the hotel with our luggage, our hostess gave us two decorated eggs for our journey. Splendid. Thank you.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a balcony.

We arrived into Kalambaka and took a taxi (5 euros) to the hotel which is no more than a 10 minute (uphill) drive away. The hotel owners are incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful and are always around should you need them. Our room was large, clean, comfortable and quiet.

There are mini supermarkets, cafes, bakeries and restaurants within a 5 minute walk although being in the mountains it is hilly. Kalambaka had more dining options and is about a 25 minute walk. Meteora can also be reached on foot but it is a brisk 30 minute walk up a steep main road but we found it pleasant and safe enough.

Breakfast was included in our stay and as other reviews state, was the same each day, brought to your table and comprised a bread roll with butter and jam, a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, squash, tea or coffee, marble cake and a hard boiled egg. So yes, not entirely wholesome, particularly Greek or adventurous but generous enough to see you through the morning.

We would stay there again if we were to return to the area.

Our family of 5 rented 2 rooms that shared an outdoor balcony with views of the rock formations. Awesome! The hotel is perfectly situated in a small village within easy walking distance from markets, a bakery and several tavernas. The hotel does a nice breakfast for a modest fee. Only shortcoming was no fresh fruit or yogurt. The owner and son were very helpful and welcoming. Upon request, she also served us a glass of wine(me) and milk(8 year old) for no extra charge while we played catch in their lovely front yard after visiting the monasteries. Ask for the rooms with the balconies!!

We are so pleased we chose to stay at the Tsikeli. We will visit this hotel again (we go to Meteora every few years) and will recommend it to our friends.
The location is perfect, right under the huge rocks of Meteora and walkable to some of the monestaries - if you are fit enough.
We had a small room but it was perfect for our 2 night stay - very very clean, warm and comfortable with a tv and wifi reception. The bathroom even had soap and shampoo and you could borrow a hairdryer from reception. It had a small safety deposit box in the room at no extra cost - a thoughtful addition to foreign travellers.
The reception / bar areas were welcoming and had a log fire burning away gently at the back. Breakfast was served here and it was lovely and filling - a toastie sandwich each, a large bead bap with butter and jam, an egg and cake, tea/coffee and orange juice.
The family were so helpful and genuine - they could not have done more to make the hotel a great place to stay. I know they would help you with anything that you needed.
We visited in January 2nd - 4th and so saw the hotel with all it's Christmas decorations up - they had a great sense of fun and occasion with large blow up Santa, rendeer, snowman (and lady) and a tree. As with everything else here, the family had gone to a lot of effort and it showed.
We have been to Meteora before and found the previous place we stayed cold and not very bothered about the guests. This place was great and we could not have asked for more.
Overall score - 11 out of 10, well done and thank you.
