“A Top Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2013

Third time lucky for my travelling companion and me as the 'Sced was where we finally found an open kitchen today as the first two pubs were a) shut and b) kitchen closed for maintenance.

I guess this was serendipitous as we had a fine lunch there.

This was my first visit there and to sum this place up: Nobody leaves the 'Sced hungry.

The overall menu is sensibly sized with what you'd expect from a decent pub restaurant.

I went for the 16oz gammon which was exactly what came, it was enormous and delicious. My travelling companion had the sirloin which looked mouthwatering; a beautiful seam of fat along the top.

We had a mountain of chips between us and a couple of glasses of the cheeky house red each.

There are much worse ways to spend a Monday lunchtime.

The staff were friendly and attentive, the decor fresh and clean.

The food was reasonably priced, plentiful, and delicious.

Visit the Ynyscedwyn on several occasions and the food is always brilliant. They have a calvery at lunch times which is so good I always end up having it, as do my children. Service is excellent, always very clean and very well run.

Stayed here for the second time for two nights to visit relatives locally. The place is now run by a different landlord from the original person who was there last time we visited and is now not as good as it was previously. We had the same room as before and now find that it needs updating more than it did the first time we visited. Where the Ynyscedwyn Arms now falls a little short is on the restaurant side where the food on offer is not as good as it was previously and there was a complete lack of any help when it came to getting something for my wife who needs gluten free alternatives. Most places these days are well aware of people who have a food allergy and have some kind of alternatives available but not here this time unless you had salad with no bread. It was the same story with breakfast for my wife, nothing available. The food I had was fine and plenty of it, so not a problem with the food in general. Overall the Ynyscedwyn Arms is fine for an overnight stay as long as you remember it is an old inn and take it as such. There is a large garden area where you can eat or drink if the weather is fine.
