“A warm welcome to Skye”
Reviewed 24 May 2014

Our second stay at Fernlea, for five nights this time. John and Iris are delightful hosts, such a warm welcome and "our" comfortable bedroom again, with a wonderful view of the loch and mountains. They can advise on good places to eat, the Claymore, Red Sky and the Indian restaurant down the road are all very good, and we returned each evening to their cosy sitting room complete with warming log fire. John's breakfasts set us up for the day, and Iris's scones and muffins are a treat. See you again next year John and Iris.

Room Tip: Scalpay and Pabay have wonderful views of the loch and mountains.

Me and my partner stopped here overnight in May 2014, John and iris were great hosts and found them very helpful especially with places to eat and visit. (Red Skye restaurant) just down the road. Was lovely food. Breakfast was fantastic quality and kept us going for the day, 10 out of 10 all round. Real cosy log burning stove in residents lounge. It's got everything you need and it's really clean all round, great views and will definitely be staying here again next time we visit Skye!!

We stayed here for 2 nights in September. Iris and John were wonderful hosts and very friendly. Our room was beautiful, fantastic views from the window. The breakfast was also fantastic and really set us up for the day ahead. We definitely will be back to stay when we come back to Skye!

After arriving from Aberdeen with my Partner and In-Laws after a long drive, we checked into our accommodation at Fernlea arriving at 9pm. Iris and John were wonderful and offered us some tea/coffee when arriving allowing us to relax not rushing us up to the rooms. Breakfast was wonderful and filled us all up, allowing us time to see the wonderful sights without having to stop until late afternoon. We were out for approx 12 hours a day in the 2 nights we stayed and we felt very comfortable coming back to the guest house knowing we have wonderful hosts. The bedrooms were also very comfortable and spotless and we had never slept so well. I have no faults whatsoever! Thank you John and Iris for being wonderful hosts and very accommodating to the needs of your guests! Enjoy your time with the kids when they come to visit! Carla, Garry, Anne and Richard Urquhart

Fernlea was amazing. My husband and I stayed here for 3 days in Dec 2012 for my birthday. John and Iris were all you can hope for in hosts! They were exceedingly helpful for things to do and places to eat. And they were also just good company. The days were short in December so we spent long evenings lounging by the fire in the house with them. They recommended many things to do and insider information like visiting the fairy pools, (which were my husbands favorite) and they weren't listed in the tourist info I poured over before our trip. Food was great and local! I liked the cereal so much, they gave it to me to snack on on the drive home! John and Iris are so sweet and there is no doubt in my mind where you should stay if you visit skye. It was also so very nice to wake up and look out the window at the ocean and islands. It was by far the most relaxing vacation we have ever had; we slept amazing. Fernlea was unbeatable, we don't often visit places twice because we love experiencing new places, but our stay in Skye was so wonderful we've often fantasized of going back.

My wife and I were only on Skye for a short time and I'd picked out Fernlea as a good stopping point after a long drive. How rewarded we were. John and Iris were fabulous, warm hosts - afternoon tea on arrival was unexpected and such a wonderful surprise. Our room, bathroom and breakfast were perfect. We followed their travel and dining recommendations and were not disappointed. When we come back for a longer visit, we WILL try Fernlea first.
