Diving in Bunaken is breathtaking, with lots of micro & macro life, and the crew at Bunaken Village Resort are top notch - the diving instructor there took my husband through his first Open Water course (and now he's hooked) and the Divemasters are watchful of divers and have amazing capacity to seek out hidden microlife, in both day and night diving! Turtles (!!!), Huge puffers, Napoleon wrasse, stingrays, hundreds of "Nemo"s, starfish of all sorts, frogfish (!!!), nudibranches, mandarinfish ... I could go on all day!

The Resort itself consists of clean chalets within a well-kept tropical garden, and guests are invited to dine together for home-cooked fares during breakfast, lunch and dinner. The owners, Angeline and Joachim, dine with the guests and are incredibly helpful - for example, they bought contact lens solution for us on one of their trips to the mainland, and at the end of our trip, not only gave us helpful travel tips but called to book the hotels for us.

Plenty of quiet places around the pool and resort to relax ... there's also a spa and massage parlor. We stayed a day extra cos the diving was so beautiful. Walking to the village town centre takes about 20 - 30 minutes, and the locals are extremely friendly.

All in all a fantastic stay and we were so well taken care of. :) Terima kasih, semua!!

We stayed at the Village Bunaken Resort for 5 days and it was unforgettable. Our bungalow was just next to the beach so we could here the songs of the ocean while falling a sleep. The location is excellent, the reef wall is just in front. You can enjoy it even not being a diver. Special thanks to all the staff and owners for their friendliness and the feeling being like at home.

This is a great resort!

The rooms (cabins) are beautifully decorated, with a very nice bathroom. Each cabin has a private terrace with a hammock. The bar area is a good place to hang a out and have a cold beer after diving and/or snorkeling. The big bonus is a good sized swimming pool, ideal for after spending a couple of hours in the sea!

The food is included in the price and is very good. Coffee, tea and water is available throughout the day, as much as you like. The rest of the drinks that are not included are fairly priced.

The diving is also reasonably priced with very friendly diving masters. If you are not a diver, you can also go on the same boat with the divers and snorkel your way around the coral. Very beautiful! The resort is situated on a small beach from where you directly can snorkel from, right in to the reef! The owners, Jochem and Angelina are very friendly and help you with whatever you need.

Overall: great resort, friendly and helpful staff & good food!

We, a group of four divers, stayed at Bunaken Village for 10 days and we had a really wonderful and relaxing time. A small resort with "only 10" cottages. We hope that they will stay that small, because that made our stay really personal.

Diving was very good and with our guide Reinalt, we had a lot of fun and saw a lot. Not really the big fish, but when you are interested in the macro-life, this is a real paradise.

Our bungalow was, as they called it, modern indonesian style and was every day cleaned.
With the little veranda we enjoyed relaxing at the bungalow and did a lot of reading.

The staff is very friendly. Some of them are learning to speak Dutch, and we hoped that they learned a lot form us...
The owners, Jochem and Angelina, were skillfull, friendly and very attent. When the German guys had their last evening we were also invited, and enjoyed the guitar and singing from the staff. Also the dance with Angelina.

On the last day, I had a little accident (bumped my head and it had to be stitched). Immediately everybody was alert and helpfull. When the village nurse arrived, she stitched is skillfully and it healed very good.
Because of the little resort, there was immediate attention and a very helpfull staff. Really wonderfull, and thanks again to Jochem and Angelina.

The food is very good. The cook is wonderfull and for those 10 days we had a variety of dinner.

And ofcourse, we enjoyed the little Spa and had a relaxing massage.

We also suggest to go there and have relax and fun diving!

This small "resort" if you really want to call it is more like a family owned village. The owners, a Dutch man and his Indonesian wife, are very sweet and did the perfect mix of being available when you needed them and leaving you alone when you just wanted to relax. Food was good with a nice variety, we stayed for 10 days and it was something that was important seeing it is all inclusive. They also accommodated for special diets, always having a vegetarian option. The staff were very friendly their english is a bit lacking but always eager to assist you. They even had some nice singing/guitar music evenings with the guests. The diving was also very nice. The dive shop was also very flexible with where you wanted to dive and the dive masters where always eager to point out what you were interested in. Ours went out of his way to find us a pigmy seahorse which was amazing! I still am amazed anyone can ever find them seeing they are so small. The snorkeling was great too, some of the nicest soft coral beds were just a 5-10 minute swim from the shore, to be honest that area was just as good as any dive site in the area...... There is not really a proper beach to walk on or sunbathe but there is a pool on site. And the island itself is small and limited for excursions. We did a hike on a close island but it did not have proper trails and our "guide" spoke no english so it was a bit difficult to discuss distances and routes so be aware. All in all a good experience.

We are a group of four divers and searched for a basic resort with good food and excellent scuba diving facilities, therefore it should be located directly on Bunaken Island to avoid long journeys to the best dive spots. We got the advise to try Bunaken Village Resort and we have been totally happy with this choice. The resort is more than "basic", it has only ~10 lovely cottages which are in a very good condition and offer all comfort which we needed. We had some concerns about the missing aircondition before we started the journey, but AC is definitely not necessary, because the architecture of the huts provides a climate, although there is high humidity (especially in the evening).

The staff is very friendly and everything seems to work hand-in-hand. The food is very good and they often serve fresh fish (tuna or snapper). The kitchen staff is very attentive - e.g. they noticed that I don't eat egg and offered me extra portions of food without egg (without any request from me). That is what I call customer oriented service!

Diving was excellent as well! The dive shop manager is Jun, who originates from the area and seems to know every single corner of the national park and surrounding Islands. We had an "own" diveguide (Salim) who had a good view for details (macro-stuff). They always knew to be on the right divesite on the right time - e.g. to see sharks (we saw sharks and turtles nearly every second day). The boats have oxygen on board and the tanks (DIN and INT) seemed to be in a good condition (in comparison to former experiences from egypt, thailand and the philippines).

Beside diving and eating, the third component for a relaxed holiday is relaxing itself :) Usually, I don't really need a pool or a SPA for nice diving holidays - but after staying in Bunaken Village Resort, I don't want to miss it anymore. There is nothing better than jumping into the clean pool after diving or getting a massage in the SPA. The SPA is very nice and provides a tranquil atmosphere (Bali style). The qualified staff helped to choose the right treatment and prices are reasonable.

We stood 14 nights in Bunaken Village Resort and it never got boring, although the island is very small! When going to Bunaken you should also visit the three local villages (maybe ask someone to rent his motorbike) and take a tour on the mainland. We have been really happy with our holidays and would like to say thank you to Angelina and Jochem (and the whole staff) for these nice days - the final evening was also really nice because the staff arranged an unplugged concert (with guitars, vocals and local instruments) near the beach.
