We stayed at Daniel's for 4 days, and absolutely loved it. Ok, the cottages are quite basic (no hot shower, no electricity during the day), but you're on a gorgeous sunny island: who needs hot showers and electricity anyway? The rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable.

The food was great and there was plenty of it, eventhough a group of Chinese people always tried to grab as much food as fast as possible :-). The staff is sooooo friendly! They know your names before you even know theirs. We spent lovely evenings chatting, singing and playing music with them. The whole atmosphere at the homestay was just amazing.

The dive shop is very professional: the equipment is brand new, the dive masters are really experienced, and the price is very reasonable. Diving in Bunaken was of course great. You see so much stuff! If you don't dive, you can join the divers to go snorkeling (free of charge), or go snorkeling at the coral wall just off the beach. The coral and the fish are simply stunning.

I would recommend Daniel's homestay to anyone looking for fun, good diving, and general island-bliss :-)

I wish to review here about Daniels Homestay Immanuell Dive center and their attitude to the customers.
It seems to me that they are the most client-orientated Dive shop on Bunaken and all surrounding islands. Really. I actually stayed in neighboring Siladen island and my hotel did not provide diving and the other hotels refused to guide me due to different fantastic reasons. I called ALL dive shops on Bunaken, one by one, everybody replied that they ddn't want to pick me up from neighbouring island to dive with them...Come on, guys! My island was just 400meters away! And only Immanuel Divers agreed to pick me up FREE of charge (and return back:)) for each of few dives and at the same to take my wife for snorkeling on the dive boat - also free of charge!(Usually hotels charge for this in Indonesia). Straight to business - divemaster Filix was quite professional and attentive gentleman, as well as all the rented equipment was. Oh, last point! This dive shop is one of the cheapest there, if not absolutely the cheapest! And no, their equipment is not old and half broken :)
So, thanks to them!

This is one of several "resorts" scattered round the coast of Bunaken island. They all consist of wooden huts built round a central dining area. Daniel's Homestay has a small beach area carved out of the mangroves.

Daniel's people will pick you up at the airport or a hotel in Manado and ferry you out to the island for Rp200000. There is no TV or internet att the resort.

Bunaken is essentially a diving-focussed destination, and our party consisted of snorkellers. However the reef off Daniel's beach was easily reached from the shore, and the coral, fish and other marine life at the reef drop-off were wonderful.

All Bunaken resorts are full-board, since there are no independent restaurants or cafes on the island. We found the variety and quantities of food at Daniel's place were barely adequate, and breakfast in particular was very poor.

And as the Lonely Planet writes, if you don't dive you are not really the kind of customer they want on Bunaken. This manifests itself in the general level of service, and in the attitudes of the boss. We had intended to stay 4 nights, but were so disappointed we escaped after 2. We won't be going back.

This is absolutely the best place on Bunaken. Me and my girlfiriend tried three places on the island and we prefer Daniels.
It´s very basic type of accomodation and electricity only at night but you don´t need much more when you´re just chilling all day long.
The staff is great and very friendly and helpful. Everybody knew our names after two days. The diveguides are very experienced and the equipment is ok. If you don´t want to go diving, you can join the boat for free to go snorkelling. And from the fifth dive you get a discount on the following dives.

This is really THE best place to stay, if you don´t mind staying on a budget. We heard stories about other cheap places and their rat-problems but we didn´t see a single rat at this place.
