There are a few resorts/ hotels in the Bunaken Island, which is supposed to be one of the best dive sites in the EAST. Most of the resorts/hotels are in very bad condition and charge high prices. Cicak Senang is run by an European lady. It has only eight bungalows, which are tastefully furnished and located. The resort is situated right in front of the beach; when it is high tide, one can enjoy the cool sea breeze with calming sound of the waves over a cool beer, HEAVENLY!!! To travel to Cicak Senang, one has to travel from MANADO mainland by boat. There are private speed boat, but the price is very high. The public boat fare is very reasonable, but have limited time schedule and stop only at the main port of Bunaken Island. However, there are quite a few motor bike around and can take one to Cicak Senang at reasonable price.Bon Voyage!

Room Tip: ALL the bungalows have balcony facing the sea. Try to get one nearer to the beach. Some of the bunga...

We are just back from a fantastic week’s holiday at Cicak Senang and already want to go back! Hopefully next year! What’s great about Cicak Senang is that it doesn’t feel like an impersonal resort at all, but instead has a very relaxing homely vibe thanks to its very friendly owners - a lovely Dutch lady called Willeke and her husband Jerry. Despite the resort’s small size, the diving is done very efficiently and professionally. We did 10 great dives around Bunaken - a fantastic experience – and I still want to do more! The instructor was excellent – pointing out an array of sea creatures from tiny sea horses to nudibranches etc. The food here is surprisingly good and more like traditional Manado cuisine rather than the boring touristy food most places serve. Willeke even served us our favorite dish on the last day – a very nice touch. As for the bungalows, yes they are simple and without aircon but we still slept very well at night. During the day it will get very hot – but then again you should be diving or snorkeling right? All in all, this is a fantastic little resort for those who appreciate the good things in life over luxury - and very good value for money as well. Highly recommended - especially for divers and snorkelers.

Willeke, the owner, and her staff were very friendly and helpful in accommodating all our needs. We were traveling Indonesia for my in-laws 40th wedding anniversary. Willeke went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Food was really good, especially the fish satay. We stayed in the last bungalow on the hill. It was quiet, a nice breeze at night and simply a great relaxing atmosphere was present.

Managed by a lovely Dutch owner, you can expect great service and a laid back atmosphere.

Since the arrival we received a warm welcome, which included a nice lunch. The employees took our bags to the room which was nice considering that the resort is build up the hill. After the first night we figured that the mattresses where getting so old that we were actually sleeping on the wooden board of the bed. When mentioning that during breakfast, we got brand new mattresses on the same day! Speaking of customer service!

Obviously you get what you pay for, so don't expect a high quality resort, but just a nice friendly family resort with very good scuba diving arrangements and nice food. We even got fish sate on request, which was really good.

Room Tip: Don't take the higher rooms if you have difficulties walking up the stairs. Go for the higher ro...

We decided to stay at cicak senang after having met Willeke on the public boat from Manado. We didn't compare the guesthouse with other places on the island, but we had a very pleasant stay. Willeke is a great host and the food is delicious. We found the price a bit steep for simple accommodation. The bungalows are lovely, beautiful but the sanitary is not up to standard. However, comparing prices with other accommodation on Bunaken Cicak Senang doesn't stand out negatively. Unfortunately it was very windy during our stay. No snorkeling! We'll have to come back. We did have some excellent swims on a wonderful beach, just on the other side of the village, a short walk from the resort. We felt at home with Willeke, Jerry, the kids Seth and Lilian, the cat, the dog.

Great place to stay, I had a private comfortable bungalow with an elevated view over the south coast. Because there is a total of only five bungalows this place has a welcoming feel about it and Willeke the owner and her staff are always helpful and friendly. The diving was excellent, a lot of the best dives in Bunaken are on the south coast so were only five to ten minutes away in the boat. Jimmy my dive guide was adept at spotting a large amount of animals. For my preferences the south coast was a better place to stay than the east coast (where most of the resorts are) because of the nice views over the ocean you get from your bungalow. It's also more quiet and private on the south coast with no motorbike noise.

Room Tip: Bungalows 3 and 4 have great views since they are higher on the hill. That does mean more walking up...

The owner, Willeke, was a nice lady and fairly offered the room rate with quick-response email. No disatisfaction. She arranged port pick and drop-off with cheap prices. She also suggested us to join other's group so that we could have cheaper snorkeling trip. And the food, she had a local cook that served us delicious meals 3 times a day which're included in the room rate.
