Bunaken Cha Cha is fondly memorable for the following reasons:

1. The hosts - Raf and Reiko, a great team that run the place efficiently and with a fun attitude. A nice touch is that they eat with the guests every meal so that you have a sense of belonging right away. A friends birthday during our stay prompted a birthday cake and was presented by Raf which was a lovely surprise and a good reflection on the hosts attention to details and making the effort to ensure your stay is extra special.
2. Mellow location and great food - a boat ride to the resort from Manado which immediately puts you on island time. The communial area and balcony are lovely, but the location is still relatively wild, so bugs need to be expected. The rooms were fine, with air con and fans as well as large mosquito nets. The resort is based on a steep hillside, so you get a workout going from the communal area to your room, useful after the delicious meals that were served 3 times a day (with afternoon tea an added bonus). The tuna sashimi we were served first night was melt in the mouth, with the other asian dishes continuing to impress, meal after meal.
3. Diving - waking up every morning with the prospect of diving with an experienced crew can motivate even the worst morning person! The diving in this national park is some of the best I have done over many years and the dive masters were fantastic for guiding us safely where there were strong currents. Highlights were turtles +++, a raft of colourful coral formations, steep walls and beautiful tropical fish. The downside is typical of Indonesia which allows rubbish to pollute it and will ruin this place if not addressed.

Room Tip: Air con is not on at night, so a fan is useful as the rooms can get warm.

Stayed here at the beginning of 2012 with my sister and father. It is the best holiday I have had by far. The accommodation is perfect, food delicious, staff polite and helpful, the owners Raf and Reiko are the best hosts and the diving was out of this world. Expect bugs, rain and heat...it comes with the territory!!
Will definitely return xx

My wife and I had a 4D3N stay at Bunaken with excellent owners as hosts. They are sure to take care of you. Meals are delicious local food and the afternoon snack is a treat. The communal meal times makes interaction inevitable and adds on to the experience of a holiday.

Somehow, the dives makes you have headaches. Bed linen can be better as well as toilet privacy.

My wife and I stayed here a couple of days in a villa with aircon. Diving/Snorkeling in the morning and relaxing in the afternoon (also possible to dive again in the afternoon, but above water is beautiful ... but under water it is amazing (and that is a word I don't use often)).

Resort:
The resort is small (around 9 rooms) and that makes the atmosphere more personal. All meals are in the common area and at set times. The food is not a-la-carte, but the cook is good and he is considering the guests special wishes. The advantage of this set-up is that all the guests are at the common table and the connection between the guest is florishing due to that (especially convenient for people that travel alone). Raf and his wive (the owners) are very hospitable, and they make sure the conversations are going. The rif is just in front of the resort, so take your snorkeling gear, walk into the sea, start swimming and enjoy the sealife!

Room:
The room is ok for the purpose. The bed is comfortable. The use of the aircon is not clear, because due to the ocean (and the chinks in the wall) there is plenty of wind. That is the charm of the room (including the ocean view). The bathroom is not that great. We had a leak in the roof, and the tiles are uneven. Also the door bedroom/bathroom was not closing that well. But I have to say, all the comments/suggestions we had, were being solved on very, very short notice.

Location:
28 dive locations within 20 minutes by boat. Great corrals and sealife! Only disadvantage is that sometimes there is rubbish floating around from Manado (the mainland). But that is not spoiling the fun! One needs to count on at least 1 hour (30 min taxi, and 30 min. boat) to get to the resort.

In overall a great stay in the most hospitable hotel/resort I have ever been to.

Room Tip: Rooms no. 1 and 2 are more at the front of the resort: closer to the water.

We had a lovely 4 night stay. My 10 year old son loved the snorkling trips and loved the owners dogs! He made friends with 2 Canadian boys on a family trip and so had a blast!

The whole set up suited us, informal and relaxed!

We spent a few days at the resort in Jul 2012. Resort is located right beside the sea. Room is simple but clean. No TV and no phone in the room, only the sound of insects at night. Definitely peaceful and great place for "unplugging" from the world. Raf and Reiko are very nice and made our stay comfortable. We saw them quite often during our stay and they would join us during meal times. Food was simple but delicious. Sam is the diving instructor there and we saw him on the boat during our daily trip out to the marine park. He's professional and knowledgeable. Definitely the person to consider for taking diving courses. The water is clear with good visibility for most of the sites we visited. Saw sea urchins, starfishes (blue ones, brown ones, even a few 6 legged ones), fishes, turles and some colourful corals. Transfer from airport to resort and resort back to airport was smooth. Would certainly consider returning again.
