Our one week stay at Waycroft Cottages was one of the highlights of a two month tour around the British Isles. From my first email enquiries I could sense that Ray was an enthusiastic and attentive host. This impression was confirmed when we were warmly greeted by her on our arrival. Ray is an engaging host with a wealth of local knowledge and offers great insight into life in the Dales.
The cottages were established by Ray and her husband on a generous site overlooking the glorious rural scenery of the northern Yorkshire Dales. Our two storey unit had an exceptionally well set up kitchen and a comfortable lounge / dining area. The upstairs bedrooms were very comfortable and silent at night time. We even had the option of blankets providing a welcome alternative to all those uncomfortably hot doonas that most British accommodation provides.
The cottages are set in a large and beautiful garden that extends down to the banks of the fast flowing Swale River. Ray continues to keep the garden in immaculate condition and its a joy to wander through it enjoying the many birds that frequent it.
The cottages are located on the edge of the appealing village of Reeth with a delightful winding snicket providind an easy little walk into the village's cluster of pubs and shops. The surrounding Swale Dale is a beautiful and a relatively quiet slice of the Yorkshire Dales with quaint stone villages and crystal clear streams set within a patchwork of stone walled green fields and a backdrop of lofty fells tinged purple with flowering heather. The area provides countless opportunities for walking through the countryside.
The nearby market town of Richmond is one of the most appealing towns we saw throughout our travels. It also has some some excellent dining options including the authentic Rustique French restaurant. Waycroft provided us a good base to visit other Yorkshire attractions such as the Yorkshire Moors steam railway and the city of York.
It surprised me that most of Ray's guests are apparently from Britain - her accommodation at Waycroft has much to offer overseas travellers and I would highly recommend it.
I've been coming to Wraycroft Cottages with my parents since I was a teenager. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped with all mod cons. There's plenty of parking and if you don't want to use your car on holiday you can walk to the shops and pubs and walk and bike from the front door. The views from the cottage are the best in the Dale. I love it here and can't wait to return in the summer.
Very clean cottage, lovely to have a real fire.Spectacular views from the garden. We love this area , have been visiting for years, so glad we found these cottages, always a warm welcome from Mrs Hodgson .we hope to be visiting for many years to come
. The cottages have a pleasant scenic outlook and a large well kept rear garden. There are numerous walks and trails straight from the cottage, and villages to visit by car Three pubs, post office ,bakery ,newsagents, icecream parlour and three grocers

We recently returned from another week in Reeth, yet again staying at Wraycroft Holiday Cottages. We've returned every year sometimes more than once, for 12 years. This says it all! We can't fault either the village or the very cosy, clean and extremely well equipped cottages. The local pubs are all within easy walking distance and serve good wholesome food. There are many beautiful walks from the doorstep with amazing views. You will receive a very warm welcome from the owners, who are happy to chat or leave you to it if you prefer. We have already booked our next visit!
