“Good food at reasonable prices with friendly staff and views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2013

We liked this so much we came back to eat on the second night of our stay in Swaledale. There were good veggie choices as they do a range of pizzas as well as the main meals. Much improved on the previous occupants - last time we stayed we didn't eat there because the vegetarian options were so limited. The staff are friendly, the range of single malt whiskies is huge, and the outside tables have views of the village green, and across Reeth and some of Swaledale. The village is pretty with a good icecream shop and other pubs as well. We stayed in Park End Guest House, about 3 miles away which has views across the dale from the patio and a very friendly host.

We called in for lunch after it was recommended to us by a business in the village. We were not disappointed at all. We were made very welcome by Abi, who came over after we had ordered and had a lovely chat with us, I visited with my mum and my daughter on Monday 20th May. The food was excellent, I had the steak pie, my mum a kids bangers and mash, and my daughter had a mixed Kebab. We were not kept waiting, the food was served without any delay. Abi came over whilst we were eating o check everything was ok. We could not fault The Buck Hotel.

Wholesome food reasonably priced - good choice of beers and friendly atmosphere ( we did not stay here so cannot comment on the guest rooms)

We have had a drink here on several occasions and beer of a good quality.

Dined at the Buck during a recent stay at Reeth and enjoyed the meal greatly. Myself and my wife both had starters followed by pizzas for main courses. The starters were excellent and almost main courses in themselves. The pizzas were as good as we have had in any Italian restaurant including those in Italy itself. It's easy to see why the hotel runs a successful pizza take away operation. The deserts we had were again of generous proportions and couldnt be faulted for either taste or presentaion. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of food and the service was was freindly and efficient. The only two very minor gripes are that they didnt have a record of our table booking when we arrived to eat, despite us calling in the previous evening to book in person. Also the dining room was in a small concert room which spoilt the dining atmos a little, but these two hitches were far out weighed by the quality of the food.

Lastly, for any whisky lovers, they had over sixty to choose from at the bar, so we took advantage by sampling two very good single malts.

The Buck is well worth a visit if staying in the area and I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Didnt stay there only dined but we will consider staying if we return to the area.

We visited The Buck May Bank Holiday. We booked a table for Sunday evening after calling in for drinks on the previous evening. The bar area is cosy and warm.My husband was impressed by the vast range of whisky. Food was great, we had pizzas. There was plenty of choice on the menu and some good vegggie options. We would definitley visit again if in Reeth.

We arrived late in Reeth and by chance tried the Buck Hotel last for some lunch after being turned away from both other pubs. However, they were still serving and we received a warm welcome from the staff. The beer was excellent, the bar warm and welcoming and the Sunday lunch carvery still well stocked at five to three in the afternoon. It was good to see dogs were welcome in the bar. We enjoyed our dinner and dessert, and will be happy to return.
