“A very good place to stay in a delightful village.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 March 2014

Reeth is, without doubt, one of the prettiest villages in the Yorkshire Dales and the Buck Hotel is a great place to choose as a base. The hotel (it is a pub really - and I mean this in a positive way!) is situated in the village centre and offers very good value for money.

The owners and staff are very friendly and the rooms are well appointed and perfectly adequate. The bar has a good atmosphere and the food is great value and very tasty. During our visit my wife had a very good cod loin dish from the specials board while I opted for good old fish, chips and mushy peas - which was superb.

I have no doubt that we will have further stays in Reeth and can happily say that the Buck would be our first choice hotel.

We had our wedding reception here on 8th Feb in the function room, it was a fab day. The food was excellent we had a hot fork buffet (beef ghoulash, chilli, chicken chasseur and steak pie) followed by desserts and in the evening we had hot roastpork sandwiches, pizza and chips, everyone commented on how nice the food was and the hospitality of the staff was outstanding they were so helpful, welcoming and friendly. They arranged a DJ which was good too. A few of our guests including myself and the he groom stayed in the rooms they were really nice and clean. Breakfast next morning was good too you could choose anything from Bacon sandwich to a full breakfast, we will be definitely returning for an overnight stay. We visit Reeth regularly and love this place, the bar area is really cosy with the blazing fire. Overall really impressed with the service. p.s the steak pie is a must!

This pub was the one we hadn't been to at Reeth before. Immediately we thought it was cosy with the open fire and joshing locals. The staff were super friendly and accomodating, they even catered for my girlfriends vegan dietary requirements despite it being an adjustment to the menu. I had steak and ale pie with mushy peas and chips. Everything was home made and delightful, especially the chips. I love cider; they had four different types on tap plus bottles of the usual brands. I tried Happydaze it was very nice indeed. They actually seemed bothered about making a good impression with random people, unlike our experience in Sheriff Hutton a few weeks earlier. I cant give it the maxim rating as have not tried the hotel rooms yet?

Our walking group stayed here on 7/8th Dec. All 17 of us had a great time and hopefully we didn't leave a bad taste in the residence mouths. The hotel is lovely and very accommodating, we were very well looked after. We ate in the back room and they put the juke box on for us so we had a dance too. Sorry that a couple thought it would be funny to turn the juke box up too loud...not guilty on this. The food was nice but just one complaint...I had fish and chips as did 3 others. We had to wait the longest for our meal and I assume the kitchen was waiting for the chips as when they came out the chips were a little hard :-( and not very pleasant. We (my partner and myself) stayed in room 9, this has a four poster bed. The room I thought was a little on the small side for a four poster bed as it was a little cramped but very nice room and very clean. But the toilet didn't have a lid!!! what's that all about...a no no at my house to leave the lid up so I wasn't very happy about this as it spoilt the fact the room looked rather grand. But the staff were great so you cant really knock them as we were a handful...We had a drink or two at the Bridge which was 3/4 mile away and this was a lovely pub, very homely like the woolpack in Emmerdale. We were welcomed with a smile but the kings Arms which is near the Buck was lovely inside but the barmaid had a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp!!! Also the Black Bull wasn't very welcoming either and seemed the place all the local under age kids hang out. We were very noisy in this pub so we made a lasting impression...oops. I would recommend the Buck Hotel for friendliness and accommodation but if you want a large double room, room 6 was massive.
The only thing I was baffled by was at 3.09am Sunday morning the TV flashed and flashed in our room and I had to get up and un-plug it. Im not sure why this happened and our friends in room 3 said it also happened to them...Ghosts or a power surge??? Weird.

Room Tip: Room 6 is a large double. Room 8 and 9 have 4 poster beds but room 9 is small and dark because of t...

We stayed at the Buck in Reeth early October. I knew it had a good reputation for well kept beer and we were'nt disappointed, There was a great selection of superb real ales and an equally wide choice of obscure and top whiskeys.
This is a picturesque country pub with all the necessary ingredients.Big open fires, comfortable cosy bar and lounge. The staff were great and treated us like we were locals or old friends. The quality and range of food was also first class as were the rooms, We will definitely return for a longer stay next time. Check the web site as they sometimes have fantastic live music.

Room Tip: Overlooking the village green is a bonus

Welcome fire, Good selection of Ales. Food excellent. Room Clean and comfortable. Bags had been taken to our room (doing Inns way) Staff friendly. Very busy (Friday night) with locals and visitors alike. Due to it being busy there was a wait at the bar and mor staff would have helped during this busy period.

My usual hotel had no singles and wanted a fortune for a double so I tried this one. Nice room with a view over the village green but for some reason it smelt slightly musty. Good bar selling well kept beer. The pub is very busy for meals as it seems to be the best of the three on the village green so getting a seat can be a problem. The food is good 'pub food' and not too expensive. Breakfast was good except for the very salty bacon. WiFi is available in the public areas and they have two hubs to try to get past the old stone walls but i could not get wifi in my room. I wil be using this hotel again.
