We booked a weekend break in a Golden Oak cabin, and arrived at about 5.30PM to check in. The Forest Retreat has the shop, café and reception, and is well set out an organised. A couple of reviews have said that the people were surly and unwelcoming, but this couldn't be further form the truth! We were greeted warmly and efficiently, and were on our way to our cabin within minutes. The cabins are well designed, with lots of large windows to make you feel like you're actually out in the forest! Everything you could need was supplied in the kitchen (even a garlic press!), except consumables such as washing up liquid. The rest of the cabin is equally well appointed, with comfortable furniture, good beds and well set out bathrooms. The whole place was spotlessly clean. The only slight niggles was that the "fluffy bathrobes" were a bit tired and frayed around the edges, as were the bath towels. The hot tub was clean, and ready for us to use. It was great to relax into, whilst enjoying the sights and sounds of the forest. The cabins are carefully arranged so that you have a large amount of privacy. On the whole, a lovely relaxing and tranquil weekend, which we aim to repeat at the earliest opportunity. I would recommend this place wholeheartedly.

Room Tip: the golden oak cabins are a bit extra, but are on the outskirts of the site, so a bit quieter and more private.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review following your holiday at the Forest of Dean. I am delighted that you enjoyed your cabin and the forest experience and that you felt peaceful and relaxed. A break away from the stresses of everyday life, surrounded by the natural world, is often the only tonic needed. I hope you will return again soon.

We (2 adults and one dog) stayed for 4 nights midweek in a silver cabin.

Impressed by the cabin. Under floor heating was so effective we had to turn it down as the cabin became too warm at times (outside temp was 5degrees). Hot tub is a very nice addition. As is the entertainment package (65 films to choose from, without the pressure of paying for one film and not liking it).

Kitchen is very well stocked (apart from dishwasher tablets/washing up liquid etc..available to buy at the Retreat)

Bedrooms are quite basic and the beds are particularly hard. I've reduced my rating to 4 stars because of this and the leather sofa in the lounge is also quite hard and not as comfortable as we'd like.

At night it's extremely quiet which is both great and a little disconcerting at first!

Overall, a great holiday - especially for walking.

We have booked to go again.

Some tips: take quite few towels so that you don't need to wait for them to dry. Take some floor mats as it's quite slippery when stepping out of bath or shower. There are connections for DVD player (HDMI) and PC. Take a music player or radio unless you like absolute silence! Take dishwasher tablets and soap for bathroom/toilet....

Just returned from a 3 night weekend break. 4 of us stayed in a golden oak cabin.
The cabin was just perfect. Everything we could ask for and more. The interior of these cabins are done to a very high standard. Immaculately clean. An abundance of cutlery, glasses, pots and pans etc.. There was nothing we needed in our stay that wasn't provided. Lots of towels and bathrobes also.
The hot tub was just fantastic. Views spectacular.
Really wished we could have stayed longer..
Staff were great and very friendly. I could personally find no fault in anything and will definitely be returning.

Myself and my fiancé have just returned from a midweek break at the Forest of Dean. We stayed in Cabin 75 Golden Oak Cabin. Having read varying reviews before travelling we were unsure what to expect but I must say we were blown away with the quality of accommodation and service throughout our stay. From the outstanding reception and welcome from every staff member we came into contact with from the front desk staff who couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly - nothing was too much trouble for them. To the guy who came to settle us in to our cabin and also delivered our delicious room service pizzas one evening to the hot tub man who went out of his way to ensure we were comfortable and happy. Every single staff member we came into contact with excelled in customer service in every way and made our stay that bit better, we couldn't find fault at all. They even took my fiancé in good humour when he had to return one morning to the forest retreat the decorations he had 'accidentally' decided to take on Halloween to decorate our cabin with :-)
The cabin itself was outstanding - it was cleaned to a very high level and was fully stocked with everything we could need and then some. The only slight comment on the cabin was that the curtains in the bedroom only go halfway up the windows so as soon as the sun got up so did we :-) So all in all the location, staff, facilities and cabin were second to none and I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone for an amazing break away from everyday life.
One final point was the rose wine sold in the Forest Retreat (White Rose) is absolutely delicious and well worth a purchase - sadly I cant find it anywhere to buy now back home :-( might have to come back just for that.
Thanks to all at Forest Holidays, Forest of Dean for a wonderful holiday we will always remember.

Thank you for your kind review following your recent holiday with your fiancé at the Forest of Dean. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay so much, and I will pass your feedback on to the team at the Forest of Dean. I’d love to tell you where you can buy the White Rose rosé but then you might not come back, so the secret stays with us! We’ll keep it on ice for your next stay.
