Description: We've recently changed our name, but we're still in the same beautiful location, cooking great food. Now called Bridge Cottage Bistro ... A stylish, innovative cafebar serving fantastic food prepared by chef/patron Alex Perkins using fresh, locally sourced produce with a distinctly retro feel. Set in a chocolate box cottage next to Mulgrave Woods - with an interior more Notting Hill than North Yorkshire, it is a place to switch off and relax far from the madding crowd.

“Lovely coffee and cake.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2014 via mobile

Stopped in for coffee, cake and orange juices after walking from Whitby. The cake selection was really interesting and we opted for the pear and date (I think) and the chocolate brownie. Both were delicious and reasonably priced. Lovely decor - we have the same tiles at home! Would go back.

“Odd fit”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2014 via mobile

We ventured into the cafe on a friday around 2pm. Once we got through the door it appeared there were around three teenagers behind the counter none of them were approachable we were strangers from out of town not knowing the lay of the land we were looking for guidance none was forthcoming so I asked about where to sit did we order there what drinks they served seemed like I was doing there job, I then asked about booking a table for that evening which I was told they were closed so we thought lets order drinks and my partner ordered a scone when the scone arrived it had two sultanas in it and was dry we couldn't believe it we drank our drinks quickly to escape and thought we had certainly had a lucky break them being closed for evening meal, what would we have experienced. This place is such a quaint old building inside they have tried to make it modern but it still feels like a cafe.

“A gem in the making”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2014

Following a recommendation, we popped in for coffee on our first day, liked the look of Woodlands and booked for the following night to celebrate Mrs W’s birthday. Three very pleasant and freshly cooked courses from a well-balanced and suitably restrained menu, a bottle of wine and two very good coffees. All for £90 including a good tip for the very attentive staff. Also a good taste in music at just the right volume. Hard to fault, we look forward to returning in the summer. A gem in the making.

“Don't bother”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2014

Booked two weeks in advance to reserve a table for two, we walked to the bistro was met by a chap at the entrance who rudely informed us the Bistro was closed that night. I explained that we had booked a table and was told that the booking would be honoured at the alternative Woodlands Cafe located in the next cove. Walked around to the next cove, just 10 minutes walk and the Woodlands Cafe was also closed. Further inquiries reveal that it is not uncommon for the Woodlands Bistro to accept bookings and close at the last minute due to 'unforeseen circumstances' thereby letting everyone down. Having eaten there once before, it is just average, Greens in Whitby is far better, worth the drive and won't let you down.

Summer was anti pasti nibble plates and prosecco, our winter experience has been shared winter nibbles of scallops, potted game and platter of goats cheese - delicious!!
