“Don't forget that Oceanfront and Beachfront and not the same.”

This was our first time to St. Martin. Last year we were in Aruba and I shared our great experience there. If I only could now. Mt. Vernon is quite a large condominium complex and sits on a hillside overlooking Orient Bay. It is the last development on Orient Bay. If you choose to stay here it should be because you are trying to get by as cheaply as possible, as cheaply as possible is what you are going to get. When I say that it is on a hillside, it is an extreme hillside. You need to be in very good physical shape to get to and from your condo. No one will assist you with your luggage as these are residential condos. It is like being at home....no one comes to clean the room (extra), you carry your garbage to the bottom of the hill where, unless you pay extra, is where you park your car. Remember that this is the same hill you will have to negotiate with your groceries. The only piece of property that sits on the beach is the pool, which is very beautiful. That is where the beauty ends. The beach is lined with several inches of sea weed piled up at waters edge until about 400 yards down the beach, and from there on, where the businesses and owners have the beach cleaned daily. Our guide to our room explained that they have their beach cleaned on Mondays. This was Wednesday so I guess you better hurry out to the enjoy the "local" beach. Other wise pack very lightly as you have the "mountain" to come down before you begin your trek to what I would call "usable" beach. The pictures of the view and of the room are accurate. If you just want to look at the ocean this can be your place. The picture of the room, while accurate, is really much smaller than it looks. My wife called the furnishings IKEA, while I referred to them as early prison cell. Do not envision these as the beautifully appointed condos you have stayed at in Florida. I can't tell you how disappointed we were. I felt especially bad as I am the one in charge of our annual anniversary trip (42 years this year). I had told my wife how secure you were in your decision by using TravelAdvisor 5 star stystem. This property rated 5 stars. We called home Wednesday night to tell the kids we had arrived safely only to find out that they may be hospitalizing our daughter for suspected pancreatitis. (It wasn't) With my wife as upset as she was with the accommodations, we went to the airport the next day and bought tickets home and left. (Maybe it is smart to buy trip insurance). The one way tickets home cost us more than the round trip tickets to St. Martin. I am not comfortable writing a negative review and usually ignore requests for such reviews, but I cannot imagine allowing someone else to use their savings on an annual trip and feel like they did not know what they were getting.

Very nice studio, just as the pictures show. Complex is dated, however the unit is very nice and really all you need. The view and sound of the ocean waves are fantastic. Rented a car and toured the island beaches. Roads and signs are not very good, so make sure to look at a map and plan where you are wanting to go before you arrive. Took a day trip to Pinal island, 12.00 per person round trip, very nice and relaxing. Pool is very nice and refreshing. Orient beach is a great walking beach, with a lot of activities to keep you busy. Rented two chairs/umbrella for 15.00 for the day Water was great, waves just right. Wi-Fi in the condo was fantastic!
Joanne very punctual on returning emails for any requests we had. We will be back!

My husband and I enjoyed 9 days at this condo. It was everything that we expected and more. It was always so good to return to the condo in the evenings knowing that we could relax on the balcony and read our books or listen to the waves crashing in to shore.. Joanna was always available to answer all our questions prior to leaving on our trip and during which we thoroughly appreciated. The beach was well maintained, with the exception of some sea weed which we expected because of reading other travellers reviews. Congratulations Joanna on a well designed/decorated/renovated little piece of paradise.

Exactly like the photos. It was a gorgeous condo with an even more stunning view. Parking was never an issue. Be prepared for a bit of walking uphill from the lot (it's on a mount after all). Beach is extremely close. Large iguanas, a couple of donkeys, and several feral cats added extra interest to our stay. Loved it!

My boyfriend and I stayed here in May 2014, 5 days over Memorial Day weekend. We still think about this adorable little apartment and how amazing our stay was, over a year later. The apartment was as described by other reviewers - clean, bright, airy, minimalist, and had all the charm and kitchen amenities of home. Comfortable bed, good air conditioner, and we enjoyed having the ability to open the windows and sun-door (don't know what it's really called) on the balcony to let in the sun and sea air, or cool down the apartment. I absolutely loved having coffee every morning on the deck overlooking the gorgeous Orient Bay and its varying shades of Caribbean Blue, watching birds catch and ride the breeze, listening to the palms along the shore rustle and gleam in the sun. For the price, you really cannot beat this place. The shower was good, interesting in fact - I liked the stone floor, it felt nice on our feet. We liked having access to the pool as well; the night we left, we sat at the pool playing music and enjoying the breeze and crashing waves, gazing at the many stars which go down right to the horizon. There was only one minor drawback during our stay which was no one's fault, really - it was very tricky to navigate the complex and find suitable parking. We had no idea where to go and missed the road because there were no signs or indicators of where the Mont Vernon main office was, and we ended up walking around the building with the mailboxes for half an hour trying to meet up with the manager whom Joann had appointed to greet us and deliver our keys. Eventually we had to turn our phones on (which we were keeping strictly on Airplane mode to avoid roaming charges) and call her, but everything went smoothly after that. We went out on the beach every morning, which was a lovely 2-minute walk along all the stone pathways, beautiful flowers and swaying palms. Most of the people we came across were friendly and greeted us. The complex, while needing some repairs and new paint as other renters stated, was overall charming, quaint and felt like home for a little while. You definitely need a car to get around the island and see all there is to see (restaurants in Grand Case, planes landing super-low at Maho Bay, shopping and dining in Marigot etc.) and many of the roads are nothing short of terrible, so take it slow and easy - especially on the drive in. We will always treasure our stay here, and would love to visit again one day :)

This is a well maintained, ocean view property. The pictures are as shows. Room was clean, and had all the tools needed to cook, laundry, sleep. We enjoyed sleeping at night with the ocean breeze coming through the screen sliding doors. Although we had air conditioning, really did not use, loved the sound of ocean crashing the shore at night. Best sleep in years.
The surrounding area is a little run down, but, if you are looking for "Americanized" probably should stay on the Dutch side.
Negatives would be all the seaweed on the beach and ice cold pool.
We chose to visit the different beaches of St. Martin and Anguilla, so the seaweed really did not bother us.
Local food in Grand Case was outstanding. Ocean 82 is by far the best in Grand Case.
A restaurant close to Mont Vernon, Rancho Del Sol, has great pizza, they deliver if you are wanting to stay in, but for breakfast, the Paradise View is tops. It is on the same road leading to Rancho, at the top of hill on right going south.
Joanne did not have an extra night so we stayed at the Westin, wow what a disappointment after spending 7 nights at her place. I could not tell if I was in St. Martin, or Miami. I would and have recommended this place to everyone I know. What a great place.
