“So good that if this Cottage was in St Mawes you would pay double in Aug!”
Reviewed 31 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We are frequent visitors to Cornwall but had never stayed in Probus before; we were attracted by the seemingly very high standard of Waterlily Cottage and we were not disappointed.

Everything about how the cottage is furnished exemplifies good taste with no expense spared. The duvets, bedding and luxury accessories were all lovely and of high quality even down to the large Smeg fridge freezer coordinated with the rugs and sofas in soft, pale coastal blue.

The colour scheme runs through the cottage contrasting with warm creams and beige. The kitchen was fully equipped and the downstairs and upstairs bathrooms were modern, warm and with plenty of hot water. The small courtyard garden also carried a coordinating blue theme in its fencing and was a lovely place to take breakfast and the papers in the earning morning sun.

Lucy the Booking Manager is very kind and accommodating and went out of her way to check that everything was how we would want. Cream tea was waiting for us on arrival!

Parking though theoretically possible outside the Cottage was in practice difficult as it would have normally involved double parking on a narrow road. As an alternative, we found it no problem parking where there was more space higher up the lane near the school, just 3 minutes walk.

If this cottage was in St Mawes you would pay at least a third more and probably double in high season.

If we could just make one suggestion to the owners it would be this; to consider altering the Change over day from a Friday.

Fridays may well have been decided on to stagger the traffic volume heading into Cornwall which we can understand. However now the Govt is fining parents for taking children out of school it makes travel to Cornwall ( as elsewhere) very difficult.

We would normally get up and motor down the M5 at 5am however we couldn't do this, this time, because our 7 year old son was in school that day before breaking up for half term on 22 May. Had we took him out of school for that Friday we would have been fined £120, the same fine as if he had been off all week. We didn't want to lie about him going on holiday by pulling a 'sickie' to get the day off.

Although we got permission from the Head Teacher to take our son out of school after afternoon registration at 1.15pm we didn't get to Probus, by now in thick fog till 10.15pm. It had taken us 9 hrs to travel from Derbyshire., a truly horrendous journey. Even coming back on the following Friday , 29 May when we were breaking our journey overnight, it still took us 6 hours to get to Frome and 2.5 hrs just to leave Cornwall on the A30. Traffic was crawling.

In short I think the Owners should consider either a Saturday or a Sunday changeover as for families with children in school the hefty fine they now face for missing even just one day make Friday travel extremely difficult. This is just a suggestion for due consideration as for those who may not have children it may not be a problem they have encountered or even thought about.

All in all, Waterlily Cottage is a holiday rental of distinction, quality and class. A real find in an uncommercial village. Thank you, we loved our stay!

Thank you so much for your lovely comments. The owners, Jane & Gilbert, really have put in a lot of time, effort and thought to create a completely relaxing and comfortable space for guests. We have also had lots of feedback from guests so have been able to introduce any extras that have been requested. Although our usual changeover days are on a Friday, we try to be flexible if we can, please do ask. We would love to welcome you all back to Waterlily Holiday Cottage in the future.

“Deluxe cottage”
Reviewed 28 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

A really well equipped cottage, beautifully decorated in a great village location. It also has a small garden catching the sun most of the day. We enjoyed a wonderful 4 night visit to Waterlily Cottage. Its centrally located for visiting both north & south coasts. It was lovely relaxing in the conservatory after a full day exploring the Cornish sights. Spotlessly clean & very comfortable .

Gorgeous cream tea awaiting our arrival and a thoughtful pint of milk in the fridge.
The cottage was beautifully decorated, really clean and very comfortable.
Ideal location from which to explore Cornwall, yet away from the crowds with great local amenities.
Would highly recommend!

“Comfort, charm, location, facilities - wonderful!”
Reviewed 26 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

So lovely that I don't want to let other people know about it!
The title says it all really but when you add the friendliness of the village, the lovely cream tea welcome and the great food available within minutes of the front door then you have a winning combination.
Housekeeper Lucy's care and attention to detail means nothing to be disappointed about and owner Jane has created a stylish and comfortable home from home.
We especially loved 'our' beautiful courtyard garden - we breakfasted outside every day and star gazed late into the evening.
The cottage was an excellent base for exploring the length and breadth of Cornwall. Wifi access made planning trips quick and easy.

Thank you for writing such a lovely review and for looking after Waterlily Cottage just like it was your own home! In response to previous guest feedback this year we have worked hard to improve the garden wherever possible and so are thrilled that you enjoyed using our compact courtyard space so much! It really was a pleasure to accommodate you both. I sincerely hope to welcome you back again in the future.

Stayed at waterlily cottage last week and it is amazing! The cottage itself is beautiful and Lucy and the owner had thought of everthing to make our stay comfortable. First trip advisor review I've ever written but just had to say how pleased we were. Location perfect too as short drives to lost gardens, eden etc.

“Excellent, reluctant to review incase it gets over booked!”
Reviewed 11 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We stayed last year and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Cornwall now. Has everything you need and more, my daughter says it's like staying in a dolls house as everything is so pretty! We love "living in a village", no other tourists around that we would spot. Playground is five minutes walk and well equipped, farm shop has amazing lamb and bacon, the Nisa had everything you might forget to buy, and the pub was a welcome retreat at the end of the day. For families we enjoyed shops in Falmouth, Springfields Pony Farm, Pendennis Castle and St Ives. Thank you Lucy for looking after us so well x
