As others have pointed out, you don't see motels with A-frame units too often. We rented 2 single rooms so did not have the pleasure of a loft like other reviewers talked about. My grandparents used to say what a great place this was - they had taken a trip to California and were almost home - they lived in Drain, about 15 minutes away via Hwy 99 (the next exit north of Rice Hill) but were too tired to go on and stopped at the Ranch for the night. Back then there was also a grocery store that faced the highway, and later a video store was added around the side of the center building housing the grocery store, laundromat and beauty salon. I believe there was once a pool as well, but the fenced area that looks like a 70's style fence around a pool actually houses a storage area, guess they didn't have time/funds to maintain the pool and just filled it up with dirt. But there is a pretty flower garden (in season, of course), and the restaurant has great food.
PS I suspect the grocery store and video store couldn't compete after the Pilot truck stop was built further north at Rice Hill, people just go there because it's more convenient when they stop for gasoline.More
