Payerne was a Clunisian priory from the 10th century, and therefore received donations from the kingdom of Burgundy. “what a wonderful place”
Reviewed 30 October 2011

You are traveling in Switzerland ? let very wellknown places and jump to Payerne, a small town close to Yverdon-les-Bains and Lausanne. There you will find on Place du Marché a wonderful church built in 965, it was depending from Cluny monastere. Can you imagine how many things this church saw? wars, kings, queen, one of them is barried there : Queen Berthe, it's said she was very good and gentle with her people. There is a museum inside the monastere, open from 10-12am and from 14-18pm. This way you will see something very different and so interesting. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to listen to a concert too. And when you finish, need about one hour, you'll be able to go and eat some speciality of town : saucisson (sausage) then some cake with cream you can find it salty with ham and cream or sweet, with cream and sugar and it is just...delicious !
