The views here are amazing and the setup is nice. Although the main communal area where you eat is dark and dismal you would think your in a garden hut. The food I edible but not the best cooking. Reminded me of a home made macdonalds. The staff are quite moody and not very friendly. I would suggest staying here though because the views are so good. The wifi is a waste of time so prepare to be off grid when your here.

We stayed in the dorm rooms as no chalets were available when we booked, There are 2 dorms and the staff kept us (family of 4) alone in the dorm for 3 of the 4 nights. The dorms are beautiful with crisp linen and comfy beds.
The kids loved looking around the Deer Park and the crocodiles.
Shuttles to the Orang Utans and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Food good but small portions.
Great value for money.
Mellow staff.

I spent 4 days in this resort with my mom and my bf in Febuary this year. it's been the best memory we've ever had. During the past 5 months we've been recall it over and over. i've been to different resorts in Southeast Asia , but this place is the one we would like to visit again. We even spent a whole day just in the park in which the resort located, feeding deers and fishing. everything is just beautiful and peaceful . and the owner is so friendly, my mom left her bracelet in the room, the owner had it found and delivered it back to China. what should i say? it's just worth going. :)

Room Tip: choose the most expensive ones, the balcony view over worths .

The beds are clean, unless a critter visits and leaves a present. The food is average but decent. The best part of this lodging is the free shuttle to and from the orangutan center. They take you down at 0900 and pick you up for free at 1600. The main lodge, where you get food facilitates trading stories and information. I had three very pleasant nights sleep here.

We loved our stay at the retreat and I must say that the room (a double en suite with bunkbeds) with its sliding wall sections that allow you to lie and look out into the forest, is one of the coolest and most memorable places I have ever stayed. The beds are comfy, come with mosquito mosquito nets (although we didn't see any), our room had a fan and air con and the large semi-outside bathroom/shower area added to the charm.

The food at night was good but not great and the beer was a little pricey. The transport to/from Sepilok, the Rainforest Discovery Centre and the Orang utan sanctuary was very useful.

The only thing that is stopping this being a 5 star review was the service was not as good as it could have been. When we arrived it was raining and the girl who checked us in said she'd take us to our room when the rain stopped. Over an hour later and more than a little tired/bored we said we'd walk ourselves. We fully expected our room to be a long walk away but it was only 2 minutes up the hill!!! Also during meal times we were never greeted or acknowledged by the one staff member who seemed to be constantly writing in a book/busy.

I agree with some other reviews when they say the only thing letting down Paganakan Dii is the quality of service and lack of staff.

But I would 100% recommend staying there as you will have a wonderful stay there nonetheless.

Room Tip: We LOVED our double, ensuite jungle view room.

I slept in a dorm room. The beds were good.
The fans made it nice and cool and since the only seperation with the jungle were mosquito nets it cooled off in the dorm at night.
The place is like the name suggests a retreat.

They have a good working transport system and they dont mind to pick you up from the wild life centre ( taxi dumped me there) even though they only offered it from the roudabout. About that roudabout if you come by taxi from sandakan then you go to the right to the hostel and to the left to the wildlife centre. They have fixed times for the feeding of the urang oetang and the minivan drove around these times. This worked good for me but i can imagine that some people would like to decide on their own. In that case you should take a taxi or have a lookat the other hostels.

The breakfast was good. They make a plate for you. The dinner and luch portions are small. But the price is also small as we say in dutch. So i always took a sidedish.

The people of the hostel were nice, friendly and helpful.

Stayed a couple of nights here to see the sights of sepilok (orangutan, sunbeam and proboscis monkey sanctuaries, rainforest discovery centre) and just loved it. I stayed in a dorm - longhouse style, semi open but with insect mesh so could watch lightening as I went to sleep and was woken up by the sun. Great communal area, tasty well priced meals, hammocks, sun loungers overlooking the jungle. Everything very clean. They run a shuttle service to sepilok attractions at set times (only 5RM at other times). Great place to meet other travellers!
