Hotel d'Alibert

Had read some reviews and wanted to stay in Caunes-Minnervois while exploring this area of the Languedoc region. Hotel has been in the family for 5 generations and is capably run by Frederic, who is an interesting character. He also takes care of the restaurant which is very good and he can recommend local wines for you to enjoy. Reminds one of a castle, but probably more of a chateaux, right in the middle of town; narrow lanes and all. I loved the large room with a nice armoire, and large, updated bathroom, as well as a "Juliet" balcony overlooking the courtyard.

Well I guarantee you'll fall in love with Fredric right off the bat...
The hotel is in a great small town, seems like the sort of place you use as a base camp while motoring or biking about the Languedoc.
We stayed just acouple of nights, enjoyed a wonderful dinner there once, would have been twice but he closes one or two nights a week, so you do what you gotta do...
Fredric's wine knowledge and selection runs deep, his chef is killer, so when you stay there please make sure to enjoy dinner there as well. As well as a nice bottle of wine.
Cheers, Salida1048

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in September, which we used as a base to visit the surrounding area. It was recommended to us by friends, and we were not disappointed. Frederic, the owner, if very much part of the character of the hotel. He's got a dry sense of humor, very witty, and enjoys carrying on the business which has been in the family for 100 years. The building was build in medieval times and is loaded with charm. If you insist on Best Western amenities, look for a Best Western. If you want to experience something special, make reservations here. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. There's wifi in the reception area downstairs. To reach your room (at least ours) we walked you a spiral stone staircase straight out of Robin Hood and Nottingham Castle. It was unique and fun. Frederic gave us a tour of his wine cellar, which is a must see. Finding the hotel is a challenge. Driving to it in a car, along medieval streets build for horses and carts is even more challenging. A GPS in the car with the address entered got us to the front door, and I managed to get through the tight "road" without scraping the car. If you have a small to medium size rental, you should do fine. If you have a wide Mercedes or BMW, good luck. The breakfast that is included is very good. The usual continental, but with excellent croissants and a full baguette from the next door artisan bakery, and fresh fruit from the next door grocery. A very very charming hotel. And you must have dinner at the hotel as well. Frederic is a one-man show. When we left, he was doing the laundry. We came as strangers, but left as friends.

Room Tip: Our room was # 8 and up 2 floors on a circular medieval circular staircase. There are no elevators...

We have had a meal at hotel dAlibert on several occasions when visiting this region with friends from Australia. We live 3-4 months per year in the next village.
The meal and service by the owner frederick is always excellent and his local wine choices very good.
His dry sense of humor is always entertaining and it is certainly worth the effort to visit his restaurant and caunes minervois when visiting this part of France.

Room Tip: If the weather is good sit outside in the amazing courtyard

Really enjoyed staying at the Hotel D'Alibert in Caunes Minervois. The hotel is part of an old castle and the courtyard is where you dine. The room was large and although plain, was very good. The bathroom was large and with all the amenities. It was a bit difficult to get there the first time as the streets were narrow but it was definitely worth it. What a great atmosphere! Our host was very nice and helpful and the restaurant was really good. The price of 27 euros for dinner was more than reasonable for an excellent meal including cheese course and dessert. The cassoulet that my husband had was wonderful and my pork dish was great... The wine from the Minervois regiion was excellent. I would recommend this for all who are driving - we enjoyed being in a small town rather than in Carcassone (which is very close and which we visited twice) I highly recommend this as it is an experience quite different from staying in a larger city.

Room Tip: Must be able to climb stone stairs! Room at the top was very quiet.

Driving through the French Minervois region and arriving in the enchanting town of Caunes Minervois is amazing. Finding the Hotel d'Alibert in this town an experience not to be forgotten. After trying to manoeuvre our slightly too large rental through the narrow pathways, we happen upon a local who hops in the car and guides us to the Hotel and after speaking to the owners mother, arranges for Frederic to meet at the front door (we were early for our check in). The most beautiful French B & B in a 500 year old building we could have imagined was awaiting us. The interior is filled with marble items from the nearby quarry; the interior courtyard delightful. Our room was very a good size and quite comfortable and we were presented with a lovely bottle of wine (courtesy of our Rick Steves book). Our dinner was marvelous and Frederic a very entertaining host. Breakfast was a lovely typical French delight of pastries, jams yogurts, fruit and coffee. Would definitely recommend.

Frederick runs this quirky but chic restaurant in the heart of the old village in Caunes Minervois. The table settings are chich using Villeroy and Boch chinaware, excellent glassware and stylish chairs, with sufficient separation between tables for intimate or casual diners. The menu is succinct, offering regionally sourced plates, and of top quality. Fredercik knows his menu and wines and will match for you. Highly recommended to book.
