The abbey is a wonderful ancient building well worth the 5euro entrance fee. It is very ornate with a crypt recently unearthed.

This lovely Cathar site is an ancient abbaye in a lovely small city. A quiet and historic spot to visit among many in the region.

True scholars of church architecture will probably enjoy the whole visit, but we found everything to be unexceptional except the spectacular apse of the abbey church, viewed from an outside courtyard; it's very impressive, almost breathtaking. Wish we'd had more time to stroll through the old town.

In the last ten years, the Cloister has been beautifully restored and in summer is frequently used for art exhibitions and occasional concerts. It forms a wonderful setting for such events. The Abbey itself is a traditional Parish church, with a wealth of the red marble for which Caunes is famous. Te non-traditional feature is the access to the undercroft, under the Church itself, where there can be seen the original pavements and lower walls of the first church building.
