“Great place”
Reviewed 30 May 2013

We had 5 nights here and we could not have found anywhere else in the area that could be better. get a room with a view and you just want to sit on the balcony all day. It is fun as it is designed like a small village and
though on first impression we thought the room was dark we really appreciated it after days in the sun. We were in a junior suite and had so much space. every detail was immaculate - flowers, little bottle of raki, bathroom soaps etc. and a great shower. the kitchen area was so good we drove down into Plakia every night to the supermarket and cooked our own meals to eat on the balcony. The breakfasts were definitely the best we had on our 5 week holiday in crete and the Cycladic islands. They were on this sunny terrace and all the yogurt/bread/cheeses/ etc. etc. were really fresh and lovely. there were two tavernas to walk to which wee highly recommended but we did not use them. It is helpful to have a car as the 20 min. trek downhill into Plakia is no problem but it is a very steep walk up. also explore the south of the isand which is beautiful. If you want a nudist beach the nearby Damnoni beaches are beautiful.

Room Tip: pay the extra and get a room with a balcony. otherwise might be dissappointing

We stayed at this little family-run hotel 2 weeks and were sad to leave. Can highly recommend this place!

As mentioned in other reviews, the location of this hotel is its major asset. The personal and friendly service of the staff, the home cooked food and the nice room made the experience perfect. Our overall feeling was that we felt like visiting family, without having to chip in with work!

We very much liked the refreshing pool with views of both Mirthios and the whole of Plakias Bay. There were always enough sun-beds for guests wanting to use the pool area; no annoyances with 'towel claims' here! Shade was always present in the bar area, also directly adjacent to the pool; a nice place to read a book.

The design of the hotel is such that the rooms are built as small appartments. Many rooms have a balcony or small terrace with a view, beautiful. Note that some rooms, probably the cheaper ones, do not have the panoramic bay view. We really recommend to spend a little extra on the room; the view and sense of space that it gives are worth it. We had two different rooms during our stay and these were equipped with TV, water boiler, coffee maker, fridge, kitchenette with electrical cooking plate, glasses, plates, cutlery, etc. Note that there is no WiFi in the rooms; free WiFi is available in the bar next to the pool and lobby areas however.

The bar offers a range of drinks and snacks for reasonable prices. The lunch menu offers various salads, Greek pizza and a club sandwich. Some reviews mentioned the unavailability of the staff at the bar. The bar is indeed not manned all the time, and for ordering we sometimes had to make a few steps to the lobby or restaurant area. Although this sounds like a lot of work to some, we actually enjoyed it, as you did not have to feel pressured to consume something when sitting at the terrace. It again gave us the feeling of visiting family, instead of being in a hotel.

It's possible to have dinner at the restaurant (either by booking a half-board stay or on ad hoc basis) which is served in form of 3 course menue (not buffet style). It's typical Greek home cooking and very yummy!

The hotel was mainly frequented by quiet couples from Germany and the Netherlands but also had some guests from Italy, France, England and Scandinavia during our stay.

It is not a place for action or for getting to know a lot of people when travelling on your own, and also not suitable for little children since there is no non-swimmers swimming pool.

Staff was very friendly, always accessible and helpful. The girls running reception and the restaurant speak good English as well as some German.

Mirthios is a very small and quiet but charming place and has 3 tavernas. We found it a better base than Plakias but it is essential to have a car to get to the beaches or to explore the island. Several nice beaches can be reached by car in 5 to 10 minutes. Plakias is about 5 minutes by car and has several mini-markets, ATMs, a butchery, baker shop, etc. and a number of (touristy looking) restaurants (we did not try them, so cannot comment on their quality).

This hotel has a fantastic view and is located in the lovely place of Myrthios.
This hotel is often visited by guests staying for 1 or 2 nights. And its a good place for that.
We stayed 14 nights and thats to long for a place like this.
The first room we received (and booked) was a studio. Since we have been travelling to Greece over the past 6 years. We thought a studio would be fine seen our experience. Unfortunatelly this studio was not what we expected. The studio had a very small private balcony where only one would be able to sit, next to the airco unit. There was also a bigger open terrace/balcony next to the parking place and accessible for everybody. Not very private. In the front door we found cracks of almost 1 cm so we had to put a towell in front of the door so people couldnt look straight into the room. Also the bed was way to small and short for 2 guests. After complaning about the poor state of the room we where able to give ourselves an upgrade to another room (1 bedroom appartment). (ofcouse we had to pay extra for that)

The second room was very very nice with a lovely view and a private balcony. So we would recommend not to book the studio type. We would recommend this type!
The bar offers a very small range of food (no ice cream of burgers etc.) and is not occupied all the time. Everytime we want to order something we had to go to the office and ask one of the members of staff. We felt very uncomfortable with having to disturb the member of staff in her phonecalls with friends everytime we wanted to order something and we where given this feeling aswell.
The breakfast is very good and well taken care off.
This hotel would be a very nice place to stay if only the level of service improves & the rooms and public areas are given some maintenance. The location is fantastic and Myrthios is such a lovely place to stay with Plakias nearby.

Please keep in mind that there is a lot of wind in Plakias area during July/August/September. Because of the strong wind gusts its not very comfortable to lay on the beach or have a day at the swimming pool. This wind is not present every day but when it is if will certainly affect your holiday.

Room Tip: Please make sure you are not allocated to the rooms on the left of the building. When the wind hits...

We stayed in this family-run hotel for two nights and we loved it! Nice and clean apartments, fantastic view over Plakias Bay and the Libyan Sea from the terrace and a relaxed atmosphere. The hotel is situated in the village of Myrthios where there are some good restaurants. Since the beaches are some distance away (30 minutes downhill on foot to Plakias), you will probably need a car.

This hotel is run from a very kindly and helpfully people. It is 2 km far from Plakias on top of the mountain, and it is thus a perfect accomodation because of the silence and of a much cooler air than staying in Plakias. The view from your apartment is fantastic. Having their rich and fresh breakfast is a very nice beginning of the day.
