Stayed in this family run hotel last week and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our coach arrived at 2.30 a.m. and following a quick checkin, we were invited to the dining room for tea, cheese, and small snack ; an unexpected welcome idea. I travelled alone, and was given a room on 3rd floor as requested, with a south facing balcony. Blackout curtains to guarantee a good night's sleep, and a powerful shower and bath, with a safe in the wardrobe. Lots of hangers and good reading lighting over the (double) bed, with good air conditioning. Breakfast catered for all tastes and nationalities, with cold meats and cheeses, hot selection of breads, bacon, eggs, tomatoes etc. Lovely Greek yoghurt with peaches, and honey to drizzle. Cereals, breads and juices ( not freshly squeezed). Lunch was served in bar area outside. Bbq one evening a week, showing what the chef can offer .... a fabulous spread of salads, fish and of course barbecued lamb and chicken. You pay 5 euro for 2 sun beds ( it stops those who like to monopolise at dawn!) but are given bottle of chilled water complimentary at midday. Food and drinks are served at the water's edge, should you wish. The owners and staff all speak good English and German, and everyone of them are most pleasant smiling people. Lily deserves a mention! Wifi is available, but can be frustrating ... the only "crib" i have, as i needed to do some homework. The bus almost outside the door takes you to Rethymno for 1 euro 20 cent, and a taxi costs approx. 9 euro. Definitely one should visit Yannis and his brother Dimitri at the White Lady for fun, dancing and some / a lot of wine!! A very enjoyable stay in a friendly clean and well run hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for room on 2nd or 3rd floor. Quieter rooms there.

We have just returned after a week at this great hotel and wanted to say how lovely the staff were very friendly and most helpful. The rooms and all areas are spottless its a greatly located right on the beach great beach bar you dont even have to get off your sunbed because the staff are constantly taking orders for drinks and snacks when ever you need them and great cocktails to At very reasonable prices.we were a group of 8 and had a fun filled time the food was good and if you wanted to eat out in the evening you could have lunch instead which we did twice really can not understand how anyone can fault this hotel even the morning we left they put on a selection of breakfast items at 5am in the morning which was great I would recommend this hotel to anyone

I have just got back from this Hotel. God, where do I start. Well It was full of Germans, not that I have anything against the Germans because I don't but I found them very intimidating, unfriendly and pushy. If your a fussy eater then you won't like the food, I thought there was very little choice and hardly ate anything all week. Great if you like salads though. We tried to book a sea view room through Thompson but were told we couldn't as we were a family of 3 and would have to book one when we got there, we emailed the Hotel direct and asked to book a room and were told the same. We arrived and all sea rooms were taken and we tried months in advance to book. it was to be a special 50th Birthday treat for my wife which put a dampener on it to start with. I couldn't fault the staff, they worked hard and were all really friendly. The entertainment I thought was very poor in fact I'd rather there weren't any if that's the best they could do. There is nothing to do for the children except the pool and the beach. Crete itself in the main areas I thought was very run down with Graffiti everywhere. I won't be going back to Crete or the Golden Beach Hotel that's for sure.

We have just arrived home after a week at this lovely hotel. After reading some of the reviews we did not know what to expect but could not find any fault. We had paid for a sea view which we got and the room was kept very clean and fresh towels everyday and beds changed every other day. Perhaps the only thing was the small shower but there was always plenty of hot water. The air conditioning in the room was free and we had a small fridge. Breakfast was very good and very plentiful, and we found the evening meal great with plenty of choice. The beach and grounds are kept spotless and while you had to pay five euros for sun beds (we were told this was to stop them from being reservered with towels and it was working) at lunch time we were all provided with a bottle of ice cold water each. We did eat out a couple of times and loved the White Lady and liked the bar at Christina's. Both places very friendly. As we were not to be picked up until five o'clock on our last day for 30euros we could keep our room which meant another day on the beach and a hot shower before the journey home. We would love to go back here one day. Great holiday in a lovely hotel with very helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble.

Room Tip: Pay for a sea view as some rooms have no view.

2 weeks spent in this hotel. Rooms 12 and 13 on ground floor near to Reception. Rooms are large with nice balcony, clean linen and towels. Bathroom is clean with plenty of hot water. Shower has a curtain that by the end of the season will look awful but as we were at start it was new and clean just not very modern.
Half board - breakfast was really good, bacon, eggs, sausage, croissants and cakes, meat and cheese plenty to choose from. Lunchtime you could use one of the restaurants nearby 50m to nearest! or use the hotel bar which is good value and does a daily special I recommend the mousakka 6euro. Dinner has plenty of choice but I found the dishes quite often too salty. Always 3 meat, 1 veg and 1 fish choice plenty of salads and bread. If there is nothing you like then the nearby restaurants will never break the bank. If you want to you can ask for packed lunch or get them to credit you dinner and spend it at bar on food at lunch.
The pool and beach areas are great 5euros a day for 2 beds and 1 umbrella. 3 for half day or 2.50, 1.50 for one bed this includes a small bottle of ice cold water that the pool guy brings round for everyone at about 12.30pm – most welcome. He clips a coloured card onto the umbrella and the beds are yours for the day and if you want to move to beach/pool then take the card with you and clip onto the new umbrella.
The entertainment was not much but I was not bothered. The only thing that bothered me was that the lounge area was not a no smoking area and was not really nice to sit in as a non smoker so I either sat outside or went elsewhere.
Reception are very helpful and sell bus tickets for the local buses into Rethymnon 1.20euro each way (8euro each way in taxi) and the bus stop if about 50m from the hotel entrance just turn right and it is just after the shop – signed. Get off at the stop next to the municipal gardens and it will leads direct to the old town, harbour etc. etc. on the way back you need to be way over the other side of the parking area – it is one way round that area, ask the bus drivers they will point you. You want to catch the bus that says Hotels or Panaramo – or again just ask! Everyone is very helpful.
I would recommend the travel agents opposite the hotel entrance on other side of road, lots of trips to other towns and local red bus, yellow train. I went on the following Heraklion and Knossos for 18euros and it was well worth it. Yellow Train visit to village and military museum which was good especially museum.
In Rethymnon I would recommend the Folklore Museum in town it has some amazing traditional items in it.
I think if you want a good value 3 star hotel in a very good location you could not do much better. I have read the comments from others about Germans etc. well the hotel does cater for them more than us to the point of the staff are more used to them so speak more German than English but they are no more or less helpful to them than they were to us – don’t let this put you off. Would I go back? Yes, definitely to Crete but not to this hotel as I have too many other things/places yet to see in the world but if this hotel was in one of those places I would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: We had a side view room on ground floor 12 and 13, although a little noisy until 11pm at night they...

Hi,Just like to say what a great hotel it is. We went there as it was close to the Allied Cemetery at Souda Bay.My wife's father was in the submarine HMS Sickle lying off Souda Bay on 29/4/1944 whilst carrying out repairs after being depth charged. We went there to lay a wreath in memory of him & the crew, it was sunk with the loss of all hands on 18/6/1944 after striking a mine. The hotel was super right on the beach, the staff fantastic nothing too much bother for them, food was excellent good choice of dishes both breakfast & dinner & plentiful. When you go to a Greek Island a large part of the holiday is eating new tasty food & trying all different flavours. If you want hamburgers& chips/fish & chips every day go to Blackpool or stay at home not Greece.Plenty of seats, sunbeds, brollies both out in the sun & in the shade. There is also a large lounge with plenty seats & sofas with card tables & free Wi-Fi .There was entertainment, a brilliant guitarist also a fantastic sax player+a terrific Greek dancing teacher who took you through each part of various dances. The room was very good with free air conditioning& TV,fridge etc.All in all we had a great week & will be going back. There were Germans who were in the majority but we got on well & made friends with a couple from Berlin who were very nice & we had no problems with any of of them. They even rake the sand between the sunbeds every day.The grounds & gardens are superb very well kept. Thanks Golden Beach for a great week.John& Adrienne

Room Tip: Best rooms top floor seaview/overlooking pool & are very quiet
