“fantastic !!!”
Reviewed 12 July 2013

Returned a few weeks ago from our stay at Bella Casita. We have been going to Crete for about 20years now, and for the last 12, staying here. This is our " home from home", except, at home, in Scotland, I dont have a Steve,( the owner) who just makes things happen !!! No matter what you want,,,,car hire, scuba diving, horse riding, bikes, private barbeque, just ask and it`s organised. Dont get me started about his breakfasts, everything is cooked fresh to order....crepes, omeletts, bacon, village sausages etc. Definitly worth getting up for !!
I always tell friends it is a little village in a village. It`s like a private avenue which leads down to the beach. The apartments are on either side, very safe and quiet (although you are only a 2 min walk up to the main street) The pool and beach is 2 mins down the avenue, where there is a pool bar which has a great lunch menu. You will pass Finikas, which is great for an evening meal.
Steve is refurbishing the apartments. We stayed in one of these, which was lovely, very mod com, flat screen TV, fabulous shower, laminate flooring etc. If we had been given an old one, I wouldn`t have minded, more tradional, but very comfy. Cleaning girls keep the rooms spotless. The small, but very friendly bar is run by Leonardo. Great guy !!
Platanais is a busy wee village. Well stocked supermarkets, several good restuarants, bars etc
This is a very easy place for getting about, buses are frequent, but if you hire a car, you can see so much of this side of the island, which is beautiful. The little villages in the hills, fantastic beaches ( get in touch, i`ll tell you where they are), amazing tradional tavernas, monastries, and just meeting the really friendly locals.
I have to say, we spent many a great night in the bar with Dutch and Russians (we were known as " the scottish people") Did feel a bit outnumbered this year !! So, come on,stay in this fabulous place. You dont know what you`re missing !!
Now, if I cant get booked next year..............

We have just come back from a one week stay at Bella Casita and it was most enjoyable . We had a fantastic refurbished room overlooking the front . Breakfast was more than adequate and do try Steve's omlettes , all freshly made to order !

The owner Steve ( a Greek/American ) could not have been more helpful and welcoming . Nothing was too much trouble and he made every effort to make his hotel a home from home .

Great location , being only a short walk to the beach . The large pool is lovely with plenty of sunbeds and also a snack bar for drinks etc .

The bus stop by the Mini Market , is on the main road only a few minutes walk away with frequent services to Rethymnon ( cost 1.20 Euros single , Steve will sell you the tickets ) . The Old Town is well worth a visit , lots of old streets to wander through and plenty to see including the Fort and the Museum . Some great tavernas and bars to try , but avoid the tourist trap of the Old Port . Do check out To Pigardi taverna in the Old Town , great food in an old courtyard setting .

We loved staying at Bella Casita and will definitely return ! Many thanks to Steve for making our stay so special .

My family and I spent beautiful week there! Nice, cosy place, just near seaside! The owner and personnel are very hospitable and helpful! Rooms are spacious, and considering price are in good condition. Beach is huge and nice:) Swimming is available.

My friend and I stayed at Bella Casita for 8 days in August. This was our second visit and we're already looking forward to our third.

Service is top notch and always with a smile. The hotel has seen lots of refurbishment since our first visit but still maintains its original cretan charm. On both occasions, we have stayed in one bedroom apartments, which are spacious and very well equipped, with hairdryer, kettle, microwave, air con, and plenty of storage with lots of hangers. Beds are comfortable with good quality pillows and linen. For us girls, the lighting was good too, which helped when getting ready to go out for the evening. I've been assured that full length mirrors are coming soon!
The breakfast room is peaceful and charming with plenty to choose from at the buffet and hot food is cooked freshly on request. We particularly liked the scrambled eggs with cheese and the bacon was lovely. Although the hotel was full during our stay, we were always able to find a table easily.

The pool is between the hotel and the sandy beach and is well maintained with a snack bar, separate childrens pool, showers and toilets. Again, there are always plenty of sunbeds, even in August. The pool sunbeds are free but a 5 euro charge is payable for 2 beds and a brolly on the beach. The pool area was child friendly with an array of kiddies toys around to keep the younger guests amused.

The hotel is in an excellent location, moments from the beach, shops and tavernas. There is a bus stop and a taxi rank close by too, if you need to venture further. Rethymno is just a short drive away and is a must visit, with excellent shoping and beautiful restaurants.

The hotel is very welcoming and well managed. We had a great stay and met some lovely people.

Room Tip: There are modern and traditional rooms. Both have all mod cons and very comfortable, however the sho...

We (family of 5) stayed at the Bella Casita for over two weeks in July. The room was well equipped and had everything we needed. The apartment was very clean and modern. If we needed anything extra (toaster) it was delivered to us within minutes. What makes this place stand out from others is that it is a short walk to the beach and pool. Also a very short walk to the supermarket and to dozens of taverns and shops. I felt very safe in letting my kids (ages 14, 12, 10) walk around freely and make runs to the supermarket. There is free wi-fi which my kids enjoyed as they kept in touch with their friends in NY. The breakfast was nice and included made to order omelets, and pancakes. The owner Steve, speaks perfect English, and was extremely helpful in booking our excursions, handling our car rentals and attending to our needs. There is also nightly entertainment which included Cretan night. We sat outside and watched professional Cretan dancers. We would certainly stay here again when we visit Crete in the future. It is also a short distance from the quaint and hopping town of Rethymnon. Bus stops are close by. All in all, this was a fantastic stay and everything was very convenient. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. Would highly recommend.
