We booked a week in May 2014 through a timeshare swap via RCI. (It seems that most of the guests in early May were timeshare guests).
The entrance and lobby of the hotel are impressive. The staff was friendly and welcoming; the majority of staff at the service desk were helpful and knowledgeable. However on arrival there was a pressurised sales pitch offering us half board special deals which we did not take up.
Our apartment was clean, comfortable and spacious. The walls looked as though they had been freshly decorated. The kitchen was equipped with a kettle, toaster, 4-ring hob and a microwave oven with adequate crockery and cutlery for four people.
We had to make several requests for a washing up sponge in the kitchen so that we could thoroughly clean pans used for frying, and remove coffee stains form the cups.
The bathroom was spacious though some of the fittings looked a bit tired.
The sheets on the beds were too small to be properly tucked in so that the quality of sleep was not optimal. The bedding was changed once during the week which was fine. Towels were changed more frequently.
There was a small screen TV in the sitting area of the apartment. The only programme in English was the BBC world service. (As we are not fluent in the other languages featured that was a disappointment).
The balcony was large with a table and four chairs; there was also a small washing line to hang out clothes to dry.
The gardens are neat and the communal areas were kept clean and attractive.
Wifi was available only in the hotel lobby but not in the apartments. Also the wifi was not secure!
There is a beautiful big main swimming pool with a separate children's paddling pool adjacent to it. We swam there most days and found that a huge positive feature.
There was another longer narrow pool away from the main pool area which we did not use but which looked clean and well kept.
We ate only two buffet evening meals at the hotel. The food was moderately good but not outstanding. There was a huge choice of food with salads, a range of meat dishes, fish and adequate choice for vegetarians. The desserts were rather dull overall with a choice of fresh fruit, uninviting cakes and good honey and yoghurt with nuts.
The "Greek dance night" was disappointing. We were promised one of the best Cretan dance groups. The flyer for the evening displayed a photograph of large dance troupe. On the night there were in fact only two male and two female dancers. The dancing routines were not very inspiring and became quite monotonous. Nevertheless there was good audience participation in the second half of the evening. (The whole programme lasted about an hour with a 10 minute interval)
The location of the hotel/apartments is in a busy tourist resort with a wide choice of restaurants. The beach is a five minute walk away. Regular buses run to Rethymnon, a few kilometres away.
There are several supermarkets nearby where we bought excellent quality fruit (oranges, melons, apples, loquats). There is also a small bakery (name forgotten ) which sells excellent Greek pastries.
