“A good base for sightseeing-the rest did not impress”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

We booked a week at Leoniki through our time share. We arrived in the afternoon, parking was really unclear so we waited until a spot opened in front of entrance which was chaos. I went in to get checked in and one of the employees showed my husband where to park. The reception was nice and cozy-modern furniture and the employees welcoming. A fresh glass of juice is served to you right away. Seemed like a great start! Check in was easy and we were offered the half board which we declined. We were assisted to our room and it ended up being a huge disappointment. The room was large-a great size with double twin bed (on the hard side), large couch, coffee table, TV, desk, kitchenette and dining area. There was a closet and some drawers and a bureau. The bathroom was separated- toilet and sink from shower and sink ( nice setup!). The room decor was very dated, but comfortable, which is fine, but the room overall was dingy and dirty. The floors were filthy and the bathroom tile, showers etc were gross. I kept slipper or socks on at all times and tried to clean the bathroom floor with towels and the water that soaked the floor from the shower. I'm not sure about the housekeeping, it was sporadic as to whether they came daily or every other. There were a lot of areas in the room left in disrepair and I had to call the front desk to get a couple things fixed-broken garbage can for toilet paper, broken handle on cupboard & they were promptly taken care of.We were just off the main pool next to the time share sales area. It was unexpectedly quiet for all of the activity and we had calls about a tour but were not harassed and did not participate.
The main pool was nice but closed early-usually by dinner time, there were two others but we did not use them. There were two pools in our complex and the other in the Grand Leoniki area where the sauna, hot tub and other amenities were located. Unfortunately, somewhere the amenities for the resort were listed incorrectly and we had expected washers and dryers at least on site and wi-fi in rooms but had neither. Wi-fi was available at the pool and lobby. There ended up being NO self service laundry on the whole island and so we were forced to pay for service as we had saved our laundry to do there. It ended up being reasonable and no problem-get laundry bags from front desk, drop off and pick up next day. The beach is a bit of a hike from the hotel, fine for anyone able to walk but I'm not sure how you would do with any disability-we didn't explore other paths, just took the path across the street. The town has only a 2 lane road so traffic can be hectic, parking is difficult along a one lane, one way road and full at times so you can end up walking a distance-the street is also dark at night so I would never leave anything in the car and stay alert when walking in the dark-it was never a problem but made you feel a little vulnerable. There are plenty of restaurants and a great bakery just a short walk away that we stopped at for breakfast. We had dinner at the hotel one evening and it was a nice buffet-prices are a little high but it was convenient and had a nice selection of Greek dishes. My husband and I decided to have a massage one day at the spa and it was quite different from American massage-if you don't mind lack of privacy and several interruptions during your session you'll be fine. Unfortunately, my massage was interrupted several times by people using the sauna or spa facilities, I had only a towel covering me and the door was open the entire time with people standing there talking to my masseuse, it was not relaxing at all and a little disturbing. My husband had the same interruptions upstairs. Overall, this establishment did not provide me with any reason to return. I was very disappointed.

Room Tip: Stay at Grand Leoniki-it looked much nicer!

We love it here. We are going back every year as our annual trip. Leoniki is in a great spot. And not far from the major city with TONS OF SHOPPING. Rythimo(so?). Totally reccomend you staying here. Don't forget to check out Jewelry store just down from it ran by a lady named "Maria". She was GREAT!!! Ask for her at the desk they tell u her store.

We booked a week in May 2014 through a timeshare swap via RCI. (It seems that most of the guests in early May were timeshare guests).
The entrance and lobby of the hotel are impressive. The staff was friendly and welcoming; the majority of staff at the service desk were helpful and knowledgeable. However on arrival there was a pressurised sales pitch offering us half board special deals which we did not take up.

Our apartment was clean, comfortable and spacious. The walls looked as though they had been freshly decorated. The kitchen was equipped with a kettle, toaster, 4-ring hob and a microwave oven with adequate crockery and cutlery for four people.
We had to make several requests for a washing up sponge in the kitchen so that we could thoroughly clean pans used for frying, and remove coffee stains form the cups.

The bathroom was spacious though some of the fittings looked a bit tired.

The sheets on the beds were too small to be properly tucked in so that the quality of sleep was not optimal. The bedding was changed once during the week which was fine. Towels were changed more frequently.

There was a small screen TV in the sitting area of the apartment. The only programme in English was the BBC world service. (As we are not fluent in the other languages featured that was a disappointment).

The balcony was large with a table and four chairs; there was also a small washing line to hang out clothes to dry.

The gardens are neat and the communal areas were kept clean and attractive.

Wifi was available only in the hotel lobby but not in the apartments. Also the wifi was not secure!

There is a beautiful big main swimming pool with a separate children's paddling pool adjacent to it. We swam there most days and found that a huge positive feature.
There was another longer narrow pool away from the main pool area which we did not use but which looked clean and well kept.

We ate only two buffet evening meals at the hotel. The food was moderately good but not outstanding. There was a huge choice of food with salads, a range of meat dishes, fish and adequate choice for vegetarians. The desserts were rather dull overall with a choice of fresh fruit, uninviting cakes and good honey and yoghurt with nuts.

The "Greek dance night" was disappointing. We were promised one of the best Cretan dance groups. The flyer for the evening displayed a photograph of large dance troupe. On the night there were in fact only two male and two female dancers. The dancing routines were not very inspiring and became quite monotonous. Nevertheless there was good audience participation in the second half of the evening. (The whole programme lasted about an hour with a 10 minute interval)

The location of the hotel/apartments is in a busy tourist resort with a wide choice of restaurants. The beach is a five minute walk away. Regular buses run to Rethymnon, a few kilometres away.

There are several supermarkets nearby where we bought excellent quality fruit (oranges, melons, apples, loquats). There is also a small bakery (name forgotten ) which sells excellent Greek pastries.

We took our first trip to Greece in late October and were very pleased with where we stayed. The location made it easy for us to travel various directions to cover a lot of sights on the island of Crete. The staff was excellent and they have a very nice breakfast Buffett.

Although the Leoniki is a bit dated and the kitchen facilities fairly basic, we understand that it is going to refurbished soon. Our apartment was clean and comfortable, with nicely kept communal areas and there were four pools, one of which was indoors. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel most welcome.

Me and my friend stayed in Leoniki this September and really enjoyed our stay. From the very first minute they welcome us with a smile - that's what you need after a long road behind.
Indeed some might say that rooms are in need of some renovations. But I should admit that for people who come to Greece to have fun, too see Crete and NOT staying all day long in a hotel - this place is good. Really. We have stayed in apartment so we also had a possibility to cook but we only had a cup of tea once when we just arrived. Never had time for that. I came to Greece to spend lovely time and not to cook, but to taste, to feel, to live in heaven. :-) When there's so many good places with such a perfect cuisine, why do I need to cook?! + we have had a perfect place to sit outside and enjoy the evening with glass of wine or the night stargazing or the morning with cup of coffee - which is really lovely. Bathroom was big and clean, towels have been changed all the time, even when we took one to the beach they still left two clean towels for us. When we have found small issues to be settled, they settled them shortly. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Front office manager gave us a map and a lot of tips where should we go when we rented a car. That was really great and really helpful - much appreciated. We took only B&B so I cannot say anything about dinners, branches or something (when you take a car - you'll never know where and when you will eat next time =D ) But breakfast was good and manager who was looking over during the breakfast was really friendly and nice. I was deeply sorry that I don't like to eat a lot in the morning time - couldn't try everything. ;-) For dinners - we fell in love with Vergina Taverna, same road side but closer to Rethymno. Chef salad and Vergina special meat are splendid. We loved it. But everything was reeeaaallly tasteful there. Back to hotel. What else? Sauna, jacuzzi and pools are free but only until 7pm so unfortunately we cannot say anything about this areas (usually we came back much later to the hotel). We saw them - so they have a gym and sauna and this looks nice. Pools are nice and in September there were always a lot of free space which is also nice. But in fact - we never used them since the sea is so close. :-) Yes, you need to cross the road and it will take like 5 minutes to reach the beach. haha. not really far if you're not semiretired. ;-)
Oh, yes. In September there is no big need in aircondition for me though we used it once and it worked perfectly.

We booked through Club la Costa and had a great stay. The apartment was clean and comfortable, we avoided half board and ate twice in the restaurant eating other meals in the easy to reach tavernas and restaurants, cooking in the apartment as well. Local supermarkets were well stocked. Beach fantastic although a little stoney in parts and shelved very steeply to be aware of. We did some excursions and some exploring indecently and had a relaxing stay. Would certainly visit again
