Stayed 15th to 29th August 2013 as a family with 2 teenage daughters. Arrived in resort around 1.30am to be met by George and his friend Stuart. After dropping bags and despite the early hours and being slightly knackered, a welcome drink was offered and after taking our seats around the outside bar we forgot how tired we were and settled right into our holiday there and then, suffice as to say we watched the sun rise and forgot our tiredness, what a brilliant start to a wonderful 2 weeks.
I think that sums up the holiday for us, we were there no more than 2 hours and it felt like we had been there weeks already. It really is that kind of place. Breakfast is filling, tasty and buffet style managed by either Joanna or Elsa who are the powerhouses behind the scenes ensuring everything runs smoothy and they do a suberb job. Room was comfortable, with the best bed I have ever slept on in Greece, cooking facilities, a fridge, air con and a safety deposit box. It was kept spotless the whole stay.
No one is imposing, just so so friendly and you can spend your time by the pool drinking frappe,(we drank gallons) or a very short walk away you can while away hours on the beach or the larger pool but be clear if there was ever a problem (there was not on our holiday) George, Joanna or Elsa were on hand to help which is always reassuring.A special word has to go to Violetta who made a mean frappe, was always there with a smile at breakfast and nothing was too much trouble (including us rocking up 2 minutes before breakfast was due to finish on more than one occasion) nothing was a problem.
I was initally surprised to meet people staying there, who have been going to this same hotel for 15 plus years, but after 2 days or so I could fully understand why people would rush back time and time again and I hope to be rushing back myself.
The hotel is on a small private road which is quiet but a 3 minute walk brings you into the resort centre. A large supermarket is on the corner for all supplies and around 15 taverna's dot the main street with small bars and a nightclub/bar around the corner. No noise from the resort can be heard at the hotel. The resort is small compared to other Cretan destinations, so is not as in your face and has a more relaxed feel. There is enough to keep everone more than happy and the food we ate was excellent everynight. If you want something a little more Rethymon is a short 8 euro taxi ride away and is a lovely town with lots to offer both for shopping or nights out.
Hotel pool very nice well maintained and spotless. For a larger pool there is a short 3 minutes walk and then a lovely sandy beach at the end of the road. Sea can occasionally be a little rough but the beach is well maintained and kept clean.Hotel bar is cosy and well stocked and seating is very comfortable.
A superb holiday which we all enjoyed, made better by this wonderful hotel and it's ability to make you feel like it's a home from home with some great people who make your holiday that much more special. Our thanks to George and all at Bueno, hope to see you soon.
