I used Marriott Reward Points to stay here and the property did not disappoint as a JW Marriott. Gorgeous, pristine grounds and the most polite and helpful staff. However, I do not recommend visiting this property in low season if you are expecting options for dining, drinking, or any guest interaction. We were the only people at the bar, restaurant and pool most days. This led to the most attentive service, but not the most exciting vacation. The Marriott does have a "sister deal" with the Beach Club down the road which offers a way better beach and sunset views, along with a change of scenery. Th elevators were broken during our stay which was a little annoying and only one restaurant per night was available to dine at. Overall, gorgeous resort and fantastic staff. Jose at the pool bar and Olger at the Nau were specifically outstanding. Thanks to everyone there!

Dear Kristimaybuckholz,

Thank you so much for your positive review!

We are glad to know that you liked the property and have enjoyed the service received.

Usually in September and October we have very low occupancies and is very quiet and peaceful.

I will share your excellent comment with Jose and Olger I am sure will be very happy to see their names in your review.

Kindest regards;

We stayed here for our 25th anniversary. Worth every penny! Great service. Beautiful hotel. Wonderful restaurants. Lovely pool and beach. What we loved most was the quiet beauty of the hotel. Not a party hotel. A perfect place for two introverts to rest and relax on the beach. The beach is rocky but still plenty of sand to play in and a nice roped off swimming area. The excursions were incredibly fun. We zip-lined through the forest, rode horses, visited volcanic hot springs, saw a sloth, and fell in love with Costa Rica. You do need to travel a bit to get to any of the excursion but the transportation is excellent. The hotel provides (for cost) a transport to the closest town, Tamarindo (about 20 minutes away) . A cute little surfing, touristy beach town. A great place for a family to spend some time together. My only suggestion is this: Don't leave your room services dishes outside your hotel room. We forgot that the hallways were essentially "outside" and were awakened at midnight by a pack of raccoons breaking all the dishes. Haha! But what a great memory!

Room Tip: Beach view rooms are a must!

Very large resort with very modern rooms. Our corner room had a perfect view of the beach and the pool. There are several restaurants on site, so that you can stay on the property and have different types of food. We ate at the Asian restaurant twice and was good both times.

We love Costa Rica and the people.

Our first trip to the JW was in 2009 when the Sea side Resort was brand new.
Fabulous Time & Beautiful Resort!

Now, 9 years later we returned and found it just as wonderful.
Great job Mr. Bill Marriott & Staff!

If you are looking into a CR vaca for the first time, as family or couples get a way, BAM, this place will be a sweet entry into the heart of the CR people and warm, easy landing.
From the US, we flew non-stop Alaska Airlines Los Angeles direct to Liberia.
Easy peasy!
Once we landed in LIR we buzzed through customs, reserved a Transfer direct to the JW with a stop for beverages & snacks, we were welcomed with warm friendly smiles and checked into our lovely room for 8 perfect nights of warm water, silky sand and lounges under palm trees-poolside.

Some fun facts:
Bring US dollars-No problem. English speaking. Clean and friendly country. Safe and secure country (like Switzerland of Latin America).
Basic American type food.
Warm ocean and swim area just off pool on beach head right at resort.
Everything needed is just a question to a staff member away.

Day trips to Tamarindo are easy from JW resort on shuttle $20./p/rt
Two-Travel excursion companies on site to set up any trips with transportation. No rental car needed. Clean vehicles and AC!

We found from JW curb valet, check in, room service, pool service, very clean rooms and open areas all a lovely welcome. Plenty of pool space to relax and sleep but some kids laughing and splashing is a joy. Family friendly staff & food service.

Note: We bring our own white wine & Trader Joe’s Pool Snacks as the local vins from Argentina & Chile are not favorable to us.

Overall, we plan to return again.
Will be hard pressed to find such a perfect remote Resort well managed and such friendly staff for a great tropical vacation in Costa Rica.

We stayed in six hotels in Costa Rica. This was the best one. It's a seven mile drive from the front entrance gate to the hotel. Private beach. Largest infinity pool in Central America. Absolutely luxurious accommodations. Unbelievable breakfast buffet in the morning. We will stay here again.
