“Most Memorable Part of Our Trip to Costa Rica”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

We absolutely loved this place. Frank, our delightful guide was fabulous and took us on a three hour journey that we will never forget. The highlight was undoubtedly the time we spent interacting the Helling, a baby rescue sloth that was probably the cutest thing I've ever seen. We learned so much and the kids got to hold frogs, lizards, snakes and, of course, pat the sloth :)

Go and make sure to get a tour. You'll love it!

“Great tour.”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

Recently went on this tour with a friend who was visiting from the states. The tour cost us $16 a piece, cash. The tour was just the two of us and the guide spoke really good english, which was good for my friend as he knows no Spanish.

The guide explained the process of making anti-venom, how many snakes there are in Costa Rica, ways to distinguish between Venomous and non-venomous and much more.

There were a lot of snakes. Lots. Some to hold. I used to catch snakes when I lived in the US and anyone who knows anything about catching snakes and keeping them knows cages are supposed to be and don't have to be big. It isn't cruel as some of the lower star posts have insinuated. There was a small crocodile as well as a few baby caymans, turtles, butterflies, frogs, spiders, scorpions and more. I really did think the two-hour tour was worth the $16 dollars. I would go back and recommend it to anyone.

“Reproduced the cover picture of the lonely planet guide”

Very nice zoo, near Nayara resort. You get a guided tour with very knowledgeable and friendly staff.
We went with our 2 kids, 6 and 8 and they were thrilled as they got to touch, hold some frogs or tiurtles. The guide really tried to make it interesting for all. We were able to take an iconic picture of a red eyed frogs climbing up.

“great, friendly place”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

We spent a very rainy afternoon here in July 2014. It was a great experience for the whole family. Our tour guide, Frank, was nice, knowledgeable and patience with the kids. It's not a fancy place by US standards but very personable. Also being able to interact with the snakes, lizards and frogs ranked very high on my children’s trip favorites lists.

We stayed for an excellent dinner on the back deck. Once we told them that tree frogs was one of my daughters favorite animals, the owner allowed us to go back in at night to look at the frogs again and hold a few more. You really can't beat that.

We went just to find something to do in the rain and were very happy with the experience.

“great guides”

The Eco Zoo is a great place to visit on a rainy day in the El Castillo area. You get to handle some of the animals and learn a lot about the local wildlife. The staff are all very helpful and knowledgeable.
