“what a view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2013

the volcano facing side of the room was all windows and we woke up to the greatest view. Great staff. The food was really good with a great selection. Brian, the office guy, was extremely helpful and full of advice and quite soft-spoken. Great locale. Great choice.

Hotel Linda Vista del Norte (or as my boyfriend and I came to call it, "staying at Linda's") is built on the wrong side of the volcano. The side that suffered the worst of the 1968 eruption. The side where three villages were obliterated. Don't expect to see much in the area in terms of restaurants, shopping and nightlife (there's nothing). Do expect to see phenomenal views though, that is, if you manage to get there on a clear day.

We booked a standard room but were graciously upgraded to a junior suite with a "volcano view." It was a decent, but musty, cabin with two beds and an unobstructed view on what was unfortunately...just clouds. I'm sure behind it all was a grand view of the volcano and Lake Arenal. Unfortunately, we never saw it. That's the thing with the Arenal area. 9 times out of 10, it'll be overcast and drizzly. It's not Linda's fault.

If you do get that clear day, but don't have the volcano view suite, there are plenty of areas to observe on the property. A restaurant, patio, pool, etc.. The food at the restaurant leaves a bit to be desired, but it's cozy and quiet, and offered a view of Arenal's famous clouds (and perhaps a volcano).

Oh. Important note. You'll need a car to stay here. And a 4x4 at that.

The hotel is located 15 minutes down a rough dirt road, and up a steep, curvy hill.
If you don't have a car, and want to head to town (La Fortuna), expect a long wait and a steep cab fare. We booked a tour during our stay in Arenal, and our tour company refused to pick us up without an additional $60 fee. This place is out there. Don't say you weren't warned.

All in all, decent hotel. Could potentially be an amazing hotel. We just weren't there are the right time to get the full experience.

Room Tip: The volcano view junior suite may be worth it on a clear day.

The Linda Vista del Norte is a really wonderful place! It was my 5th times over there last January and I have to tell that Brian and Anna offered us, as always, the best welcome! The view that we had from our suite was totally amazing! Their new restaurant offered a magnificent view of the volcano and the Arenal lake! The service and food were perfect! And what to say about the amazing feeling when we are in their wonderful pool which offered a perfect view of the Arenal Volcano! We really enjoyed our stay at Linda Vista del Norte!

Linda Vista has great views of Arenal Volcano and Lake from various locations- the rooms, the pool, the restaurant.... Their service is first class, including making the towels and wash cloths into fancy animals and flowers that are left on the bed. The restaurant is brand new, with great food and views. They are so family friendly that high chairs are visible in the restaurant, just waiting for little ones to need them. The Butterfly Conservancy is very close by, as well as the walk to the volcano fields.

Room Tip: Choose a suite rather than a room to get to wake up and watch the volcano in the morning from your b...

We have vacationed at many wonderful places but we will never forget our experience at the Linda Vista. After a very long journey to the hotel, we felt like we just arrived in paradise. Your view is so incredible, you just want to sit in the pool, jacuzzi and just enjoy every minute. I just wanted to be there all day taking in the view of the volcano and lake. Just amazing.

The breakfast was absolutely perfect. The staff was incredible. The only drawback was what to do about dinner. Since it is a long trek to get to town, the first night we opted to try to local soda restaurant which was not very good, the second night we decided to go hungry, the third night we stayed in town to explore but took a very expensive taxi ride back. Every night the chef would cook dinner for the staff. It smelled so good, we finally got the nerve to ask if we could pay for two dinners because it smelled terrific and we enjoyed his breakfast. The chef was extremely nice and made us the best food we had on the trip. Since it has been a few months since we came back, I forget the waiter's name but he was my favorite person we met in Costa Rica.

I would highly recommend you stay at this hotel. The bumpy dirt road to get there may seem rough but the view more than makes up for it.

You can't beat the views from this place - they are spectacular. We had a cloudless day and a slightly cloudy one. I'm sure the view counts for a lot less if you get cloudy days.

The problem is that the volcano is no longer active so be very aware of that if you are going. We knew, so were not disappointed, but the hotel was built when the views at night would have been even more spectacular and it's pricing still reflects some of that- meaning it's not cheap.

The other thing to realise is that the drive here involves dirt road driving which is pretty rocky. Again, if you ate prepared and have a high clearance vehicle, it is not a problem. On the other hand, the drives are spectacularly good.

Back to the hotel. The rooms are a little basic, but big and clean and functional. It's an outside walk to the restaurant, reception or parking so not so great in the wet. The public areas are small but wonderful in good weather - you could spend a day on the patio watching the vocano, lake and birds.

The restaurant was efficient, friendly and with the same 'to die for' views, but with a limited menu.

In summary, I'd say it's close to a 5 star experience on a dry, clear day and close to three on a cloudy one.

We only stayed e one night but could have easily stayed longer. It's a bit of a haul down the road, and what a road. Not a great deal worse than many unpaved roads we encountered, but it was a good example of why Ticos drive 4wd.
The restaurant was being rebuilt as the original was damaged in an earthquake in September. The partially constructed building might not appeal to everyone, but it didn't bother us. Very nice staff. Food was reasonable and the coffee excellent.
The room was spacious, and in perfect condition, with a lovely view over valleys on both sides. Nice infinity pool with hot tub attached.
