Hi, this is a review of the hotel, resort and crystal.

Hotel
The food here is fantastic, 5, 6 courses plus a themed night (italian) and a local farmers buffet, top notch and if you don't like the course you have chosen, just choose another.
Breakfast, everything you could want including bacon frankfurters, eggs fried scrambled and omelettes made for you, loads of breads meats cheeses cereals etc. Special mention to Valerie who was a fantastic waitress, spoke perfect english and pretty good french too alongside her native german.
All of the staff were friendly but lack of english speaking was an issue (or my lack of german speaking). Housekeeping was good.
Rooms are a nice size (we had booked an upgrade through Crystal which we didn't get though) ours had a tv from the 1990's with just 2 english channels.
Beds are hard as a rock, not what you want after a hard day's skiing.
Lots of wellness facilities, pool, sauna, massage etc.
Free wi-fi yes, but it didn't work, boo!
Despite what the Crystal brochure says this is not a ski to door hotel, close to the slopes yes, but to ski to the door you have to ski across the road! The 6 seater chair is about 50 meters uphill and the gondola a further 30 meters or so, to the right and uphill

Resort
Hochgurgl is just 5 hotels, not even a supermarket here, would i stay here again, simply no, this is not the fault of the hotel, but the resort.
Most of the infrastructure is at Obergurgl so i would stay there or if you are younger, Solden.
Transfer took 3 hrs in the snow, 110 mins going back in the dry.

Crystal
Not good. Anyone surprised?
Transfer was over 3 hrs. 90 mins of which was waiting for a rep to arrive at the airport. We were then taken to obergurgl and transferred by taxi to Hochurgl. By the time this had taken place we had missed dinner in the restaurant, we were given a plate of food, but seeing as how good the food was in the restaurant we stilled missed out big time.
Saw the rep once at the welcome meeting that was it, attitude was basically if you want them phone them, which is fine but lacks any kind of personal touch. No info or welcome book in the hotel, so we looked at the Inghams one!
Booked a superior room, but didn't get one, they are looking into this.
Ski to door, no not quite, up hill across a road, but if you really want ski to door and like us hate walking in ski boots and carrying skis then this isn't for you. It's not far, but it takes the edge off the holiday. payed just shy of 2k for a week for 2 for crystal finest.

Summary
Hotel had good food, good service and hard beds. The resort was non existant.
Good hotel in the wrong place, i'd stay in obergurgl or solden. hope this helps

Adrian

We enjoyed the hotel very much. One of the better ski holiday I've ever had with very nice ski slopes in the neigberhood. The location of the hotel is close to the skilift to the main Hochgurgl slopes. The town is rather quiet, so if you are looking for night-life then I would recommend Obergurgl or Sölden. The spa and pool area of the hotel is good. Toni's Bar is lovely and good in the afternoon and/or evenings.

We stayed in this hotel for a weeks skiing. The food is amazing and is of excellent quality. Far better than any ski holiday I've ever had. The location of the hotel is very close to the lift to the main Hochgurgl slopes. If you need to get to the ski school then it is a walk up hill. The boot changing area has heated boot racks which were useful.

The resort (when we went) was very quiet. If you are looking for night-life then I would recommend Obergurgl, which you can ski to (via gondola) or get a bus.

The spa and pool area of the hotel is well equipped and good. I would recommend visiting at least once. The hot stone beds are very relaxing. My partner had a massage too which was apparently good.

Toni's Bar is good on an evening. We ate there one lunchtime - the food was good reasonably priced.

Why didn't I give this hotel 5/5/? The room we stayed in (top floor) was quite small compared to the relative luxury elsewhere in the hotel. One of the two single beds in our room was quite uncomfortable.

Aside from that i would definitely recommend this hotel and resort for skiing.

Just arrived back from a great trip, fantastic food at the Olymp, congrats to the chef and the staff, couldn't work off the calories even with all the skiing! weather difficult at times but managed to ski everyday, all round wonderful 30th anniversary pressie.
One little downside - all bars apart from the hotel are smoking, so hope the sun shines because as a non-smoker you have to sit outside??
Would definitely return to this hotel in the future.

Thanks to the manager Harold (Hagult) the service throughout the hotel is relaxed and friendly with the staff working really well as a team and going out of their way to please.

The rooms are big and well equipped with humidity and temperature control, plenty of storage, a good en-suite, T.V with 2-3 English channels and many have a balcony and even a small "in room" infra red sauna.

The food is top notch Austrian with excellent service and a fantastic wine selection though expect to start at 30E a bottle.
- Breakfast is a large hot and cold buffet including good coffee, fresh fruits, cereals, breads and pastries, hams and cheeses, smoked salmon, fresh juice and eggs and pancakes to go with your sausage and bacon cooked to order.
- Dinner is five courses including a huge salad buffet, 2 choices of soup, 5 choices of main and a choice of desert, cheese etc. Vegetarian options are available and didn't look too bad for Europe but you may need to rely more heavily on the impressive salad buffet. Two nights of the week were self service buffet with a theme, otherwise it was very good table service.
- There is also the option to take a meal in the adjoining alpine bar where a variety of traditional meat and cheese fondues as well as a table grill and a few other traditional dishes were available. We tried this on the Thursday night when they have live music in the bar, and were given so much food we barely managed to eat a third of it. We were very impressed with all of the food and the excellent service all managed in relaxed (not stuffy) environment, you will feel perfectly comfortable wearing the usual jeans and t-shirt après ski wear.

The spa is excellent and modern in style with a good sized steam room, finish sauna, mild sauna and infra red sauna, ice bath, foot baths, power showers, juice bar, herbal teas and a nice relaxation area. It is an Austrian spa so expect to be naked, we were very impressed to see quite a few English people getting over themselves and enjoying it, if you have an issue with nudity you can always cover yourself in your towel... or don't go! The minimum age in the spa is 16yrs though there were some well behaved youngsters with their parents (which was lovely), but other young kids who tried to run in and out from the adjoining pool were kicked out. The pool it is very small (too small for lengths) and it was pretty much taken over by young children and parents who appeared to have a really good time. I think it worked quite well, with the two areas separated, the pool providing a fun area for families to splash around and the spa providing a relaxing area for adults. Tip for spa lovers, take your own flip flops, the provided slippers are lethal on the wet floor!

There is a large heated boot/ski locker and a short walk up hill to the two main lifts.

The village is really just five luxury hotels grouped around the lifts about half way up the mountain, so it is not big for night life or shopping, but we found that skiing - spa - dinner - night cap in the bar was a perfect day.

Of the two local ski hire shops we found Intersport Riml by far the most helpful and slightly better value if you already have insurance. In both instances we ended popping into Obergurgl the next day where there are larger much more helpful and better equipped sister shops who were happy to swap our kit around, which we could then return to the Hochgurgl shops. So if you don't get the kit that you like in Hochgurgl, pop into the Obergurgl version and swap it for something else.

Although it is quite a bit bigger, we didn't feel that there was much more to do in Obergurgl in the way of night life or shopping though there is a Spar supermarket to stock up on wine for the room (it is closed on Sunday afternoon). Also note that you have to get a lift across from the Obergurgl ski area or up from the valley to get to Hochgurgl and both are closed at 4pm so any later and you have to get a cab from Obergurgl at about 16E.

The skiing it is very good with lots of big fast lifts and no lift queues at all. It's a bit up-and-down compared to some of the larger linked ski areas so you don't get to go on longer touring runs, but the snow is excellent and when the conditions are right there is a lot of off-piste possibilities which don't get tracked too fast. There are not many snowboarders here so not much park fun, but plenty of varied terrain and as said above the powder lasts with so many piste-locked skiers. It is worth taking the 20 minute trip to Solden and trying a day in a much bigger ski area with impressive long wide runs and a large glacier. There is an amazing mega long run from the glacier to the base though don’t be surprised if it’s very busy at the end of the day. We didn’t hang around Solden for any night life because frankly the town looked like a dump.

Overall the Hotel Olymp was a great choice for a week including really relaxed and friendly professional service, great food, good spa, mix of residents (less than 50% brits) and a really good quality ski area.

Not a good choice for night life, shopping, huge ski touring.

The hotel could not have been better. Good sized room with seperate lounge area. Good quality fixtures and fittings. Spotless throughout. Food was good with a choice every night. Toni's Almhutte is an attached traditional wooden alpine bar/restuarant where you can take your evening meal instead of in the main restuarant. Really good with traditional atmosphere; try it! Staff were very friendly and service in all areas was excellent. The hotel has a clean and tidy bootroom on the first floor that leads out to a set of steps. The ski lift is about 3 minutes away.

The Hochgurgl ski area is ideal for intermediate skiers but limited black runs. Superb wide pistes and a variety of terrain with excellent views. No queues at the lifts.

Start off up the Grobe lift; ski down 24. Best for us was up the Grobe then ski down to the Top Wurmkogl II lift; take this up and choose any of the various routes down. Good self-service restuarant on the right as you come off this lift.

Hochgurgl itself is small and is really just a collection of hotels a few kilometres from Obergurgl. Apart from the hotel bars of which Toni's to us was the best there is no night life. You need to go into Obergurgl for that.

Great Hotel Great Skiing Great Location. Definitely worth a visit! I enjoyed this better than Whistler or Tignes.

We stayed at this hotel whilst skiing in the Hochgurgl / Obergurgl area. Our over-riding impression is of a hotel with staff dedicated to its guests. There were numerous "little extras" such as a free drink with the evening meal, cake or finger buffet at the end of the day's skiing, chocolates left in the room each night.
Food was of an excellent standard throughout our stay. Vegetarians had two choices of main course each day.
Service from all members of staff was dedicated and friendly.
Our room, although not large, was very clean and well-maintained with excellent views across and up the valley. The shower was powerful.
The spa facilities were very good. All guests were provided with a handy bag to take their belongings into the spa area. The swimming pool small but of a good temperature.
Finding a space for our skis was trickier the later you returned to the hotel from the slopes although boot space was not an issue. There isn't skiing right to the hotel door but the lifts are only a short walk away.
If we return to Hochgurgl, this would be our hotel of choice
