“What a find!”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

Poperinge is about 7 miles from Ypres and we were visiting First World War graves of our family members buried in the Ypres Salient. This hotel is simply delightful. Small, only 5 rooms but big on style, comfort and the welcome from the owners. It's located in one of the corners of the main square which has many bars and restaurants. Parking is always an issue in such central locations. Parking in the square is for 3 hours maximum but there is free parking behind the hotel with no maximum hourly stay.

The rooms are very well appointed and each is different, we had rooms 3 and 4 and they both had decked balconies, with exterior lights for night time with chairs, plants and interesting knick knacks. Room 3 has a wonderful view across the square The bathroom was very well appointed and also has a superb shower. If I have to be hyper critical, the basin was a triumph of style over substance - beautiful to behold but impractical to use but really it's the tiniest of gripes in what was an oasis of pleasure. The beds were really comfortable and so welcome after a very long day out in the Salient. We only had breakfast in the hotel, which was very good and our host Linda boiled eggs to perfection to add to the extensive buffet choices available

I'd recommend this hotel without equivocation. If you need a modern, stylish but comfortable hotel with welcoming hosts who should be rightly proud of what they have created - don't hestitate, book it, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Smaller balcony but a great view, choose room 3. For a huge balcony choose room 4.

We have stayed at this hotel many times and are never disappointed. The hosts are so welcoming and attentive. The rooms are all very stylish and exceptionally clean. The hotel is situated in the main square with plenty of bars & restaurants although the hotel food is first class. Breakfast is buffet style with a large choice of fresh fruit, breads, cheese, meats etc. and is plentiful. In one of the side roads off the square we found an Irish bar called The Old Fiddler. They have a lovely garden to enjoy a cool beer and they also serve hearty food (they are closed on Tuesdays) . I cannot rate Poperinge and especially this hotel highly enough, we have already booked our next visit!

We've stayed here a couple of times and it is just a lovely little hotel, perfectly situated in the main square with warm welcoming management andstaff. The food is excellent as is the beer menu. The rooms though top them both, really high standard across the board.

I'm a beer blogger and stay in the area to get my fix of Belgian beer, check out my full review here: http://beersay.wordpress.com/2011/05/01/poperinge-belgiums-hop-capital/

I owned a travel agency for nearly 40 years and in that time experienced many B&Bs. None came close to Hotel de la Paix. The warmth of the owner/managers went beyond any I have experienced anywhere. I came to Poperinge to visit the Commonwealth Cemetery at Lijssenthoek and expected this to be a one-time trip. I will be back just to visit the hotel. Next time I will make the trip when the restaurant is open. Other guests told me that it is excellent. My necessary timing took me to the hotel on a Tuesday and Wednesday, the two nights the restaurant is closed. Well, everyone has to rest sometime. The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable, the bathroom large with both a tub and a shower. I try to be critical when I review a hotel, but de la Paix gets full marks in every category. I can't wait to bring my wife here, she will love it.

This hotel was in a perfect location right on the town's square. We checked in late evening so check in was at the restaurant/bar of the same name and in the same building. The room was huge with a king size bed, floor to ceiling windows a sound system and faux fire place for ambience. The windows looked out onto the square. The bathroom was right out of a magazine with double sinks a large soaking tub and separate rain shower. Large closet space and mini fridge also provided as well as a safe. The entire room looked brand new and modern in a building of character. The manager showed us the room herself and made sure everything was perfect. The restaurant was superb! We stayed for two nights and thought about trying some place different the second night but that seemed ridiculous as the food was outstanding. The beer list was extensive and of course as everywhere in Belgium the appropriate glass accompanied the beer.
You may find this hotel difficult to drive to only because of all the one way streets in town. Free parking is provided about a half a block away.
We skipped breakfast the second day. A grocery and bakeries are in town and they provided what we needed for a quick breakfast.
I am extremely picky about cleanliness. This hotel was spotless. I wish we could have had a hotel like this in every city we stayed in. It was a wonderful retreat after a day of sight seeing and I wouldn't hesitate to send anyone here.

The room we had overlooked the main square and was big. It was beautifully appointed and very good value at the price. Word of warning. The dimensions have inspired the management to fill up empty spaces with v nice furniture items which is good unless you are tempted to use the bathroom in the middle of the night without turning the light on out of consideration for a sleeping partner. Breakfast is good and so is the service. Parking is nearby in a free zone but .. ! Whilst you can walk it inside a minute, driving from the square will involve you in Poperinge's new one way system which is not to be regarded lightly. Satnav's do not like it but you may if you like a challenge.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear have balconies.
