“Hard to Beat the Setting”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

Sparhof is an old farmhouse an easy and picturesque bike ride from Poperinge.

We had the Flemish stew and the Vol-au-vent (from the puzzlingly-named "snack" menu), both of which were very good, and augmented with selections from their excellent Belgian beer list.

The food is good but the setting is fantastic, and it's particularly convenient if you want to stop for lunch on your way to tour St. Bernardus, just as a for instance.

“The biggest bit if ham I have ever been served”
Reviewed 16 April 2014 via mobile

After the 8 O'clock ceremony at the Menin gate we drove like the wind right out into the sticks to find this oasis of culinary delight. The five of us shared 3 plates of mixed meats followed by each of us independently choosing the same dish! Ham hock off the biggest pigs in Belgium. Fantastically and flavourfully cooked and served with a smile.

“Our best meal in Europe!”
Reviewed 20 January 2014 via mobile

My wife and I just ate dinner there tonight and were completely blown away by the excellent service and 5 star meals we received. This place is well worth the time and effort to head out to if you are in the region. My wife loved her seafood dish that came with five different kinds of fish and the the steak I had with a creamy bernaise sauce was out of this world good. We are in the area for another day and we are already planning to come back tomorrow night. We've been in Europe for almost two weeks and had just come from Paris. This meal has blown all the rest out of the water! We loved our time here immensely.

“A wonderful place...”
Reviewed 11 December 2013

Nestled away in a wooded area, this wonderful restaurant is the perfect place for the hungry traveler. The interior was rustic and decorated with numerous antiques and collectibles. The fireplace added to the coziness of the experience.
The menu was large enough to please most anyone as was the beer menu. The Chef/owner made his way to our table and was very friendly and accommodating. The entire staff was professional and friendly. If you're in the area, I would highly recommend this place for dinner.

“Fantastic Belgian food and hospitality!”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

We enjoyed a delightful meal here at the recommendation of Jackie at the Brouwershuis B&B where we were staying nearby. After a very stressful day of travel, this was a very welcome end to the day. The entire experience was a delight - from the charming, rustic setting to the delicious food and beer to the gracious hosts and waiter. If you are lucky enough to be in this lovely part of Belgium, do stop here and enjoy a fantastic meal!
We had the place to ourselves on a weekday evening and the roaring fire only added to the romantic ambience. The rack of lamb was one of the best I've had and my husband loved the fish stew in a cream sauce.
