I love this place its like my second home but... A few DOE I can stomach but 50+ it was a nightmare! We go to the scar for the peace and beauty of the place just to sit there and relax but this time it was not to be... The juvenile delinquents were screaming till well after dark playing chicken with my 7 stone dog which was tethered and their adult careers were sat with their feet up! Wish I knew who they we're!

Forget the facilities and drink in the stunning scenery. The toilets etc. are exactly as described. Plan your trip as a wild camping experience (with emergency facilities if needed) and use other local wash/WC facilities (good public ones in Skipton etc.) Do this and you will not regret it.

I have been coming to Gordale for years and love it. Camp near the stream and use it as a drinks cooler! Dark, dark nights. Fantastic walks around Malham cove, Janet's Foss, Mastiles Lane and, of course, Gordale Scar itself.

Malcolm is friendly enough and helpful in his (more than slightly eccentric) way but don't expect him to necessarily remember your phone conversation. Having said that, it probably is worth booking by phone just to check whether there are large school/DofE groups present.

You may be somewhat surprised to see me give 5/5 with all my provisos, but the location really is that good and it would be a crying shame to lose this site.

I can't think of a better place to camp. There are no defined pitches, no hook ups, you just park where you choose: next to the river or under shade amongst the trees. It's great beauty is undeniable.
For the less able, it is 10 minutes on foot in each direction to the scar and Janet's Foss. I would assess that the path is wheelchair friendly right up to the scar and as far as the entrance to Janet's Foss; after that access to the Foss is a little tricky down a few rocks. Those more agile can follow a path over the tops and reach the top of Malham Cove in about 30mins...with a breathtaking view as a reward.
Access is via a very narrow road out of Malham, passing places are few and worth noting as you pass them, in case the need to reverse arises.
A lot has been written about the facilities, most of it accurate. If you have a motorhome or campervan, you may not need to use them anyway. Luxury campers needn't worry either.
For those under more modest amounts of canvas, you will be camping in one of the most beautiful spots you are ever likely to find, but with the crudest facilities. I'd recommend that you grit your teeth and rough it for a night or more. It will provide you with a wealth of memories, 99% good.

Room Tip: This is definitely not a hotel.

As a seasoned camper I found that what this place lacks in facilities it more than makes up for on location. Sat at the bottom of the breathtaking Gordale Scar and within easy walking distance to Malham Cove the campsite is picturesque as a postcard. Babbling brooks run right along the edge and two large hills on either side shade it from the winds. It’s a stunning little gem and although toilets and wash facilities could be improved as well as the accumulation of left behind camping gear, it’s worth a stay just to enjoy the countryside at its best and unspoiled.

The good bits
The location is stunning, and is quiet and tucked away. Gordale Scar is wonderful. It's ideal for Walking, and a couple of miles from Malham
Bad bits
Facilites - Unclean, downright disgusting
