“Very good example of YHA in beautiful countryside”
Reviewed 4 January 2013

Very good example of YHA in beautiful countryside - nice and clean accommodation that is very good value for money. Highly recommended for cycling or walking trips. Great real ale pubs nearby and many on-site amenities.

wow ! location location !!
malham is a little gem in the dales - such a pretty village; the hostel is welcoming and clean with friendly helpful obliging staff - nice garden, power showers, spacious pleasant dining room, tv lounge, quiet room, laundry etc etc and good food available - although the nearby pub is cheaper for evening meals and has bt fon wifi

if i had not booked a twin room i would have said this was a perfect hostel -
If you pay extra for a twin room it should at least be big enough for two people - and this one as well as being more like a cupboard only had a very small window so very VERY stuffy with two cramped people and next to the toilets so very VERY noisy when guests were up and about between 5 and 6am banging doors having showers, using loos etc etc.. whatever happened to the old quiet please before 7am?
this should never have been sold as a twin room in this otherwise wonderful hostel
except also for the kitchen where the two hobs are too close and it's too small for more than 2 people cooking easily never mind dealing with the small children who always seem to appear just as you have a very hot pan in hand!!!!
come on yha one of the reasons diehards like me use yh's is to enjoy the kitchen craic and be able to comfortably/safely self cater
i would rate poor value simply because of the size of the room and the kitchen if i did not want the craic or the facility to self cater a travel lodge would be cheaper cleaner and more luxurious ie more than enough room to swing a cat, tea and coffee facilities, en-suite, real beds and windows which ventilate adequately and often the availability of excellent all you can eat breakfasts
but overall this is a great place in a stunning situation with easy access to great walking in the limestone landscape - too many beautiful places to list them all.
SO I would recommend this hostel but avoid booking a twin room if you are a couple of average sized adults..and be prepared for possibly crowded cooking..

Room Tip: do not book the twin room - it is next to the toilets and showers ( so very noisy) and is not big en...

Thank you for your review, we are pleased to hear that you liked the location, the cleanliness of the hostel and it's friendly, helpful and obliging staff, the garden, power showers, dining room, quiet room, laundry room and the good food.

We are sorry to hear that your experience was affected by the size of the room and the noise from the toilets/showers.
The room was, at the time, our only 2 bedded room and even though small, very popular as some people prefer not to share rooms with others. Now for the good news.......I'm delighted to tell you that since the hostel refurbishment we now have 2 lovely 2 bedded, ensuite rooms and a 3 bedded fully wheelchair accessible ground floor room.

Like all hostels we would like our guests to respect the peace of their fellow guests sadly, as in life, not everyone is as considerate as we would wish and I do apologise for any disturbance you experienced. All the staff at Malham, if we are made aware of any problem, always do everything we can to ensure all our guests have an enjoyable stay.

More good news....The self catering kitchen has also been completely refurbished and the cookers and are now at opposite sides of the room approximately 6/7 feet apart. I'm delighted to say it does still have the beautiful views over the hostel garden and village green.

I also think, if it's the Craic you're after, you would love our new Reception area it's now a much more open, sociable and welcoming area, a real meeting point.

I do hope you feel the YHA have worked hard to improve the facilities at Malham YHA.

Many thanks.

8 of us arrived on route to Bridlington. So accomodating in housing our bikes securely. We also arrived on a festival day and there were no room in the 2 local pubs. The staff went out of the way to feed us and the quality was great. Would highly recommend this and I know all 8 of us were very very impressed. Toilets and showers very clean and beds very comfortable after a ong days riding. Thanks

Stayed two nights with my Son. Shared room sleeping six, only two others in room.
Room and bedding was clean and tidy. Toilets down hall clean and tidy too.
The showers were awesome, after a long day walking a caving a shower hot powerful shower that feels like it's going to scour a layer of skin off, is just fabulous.
Didn't try evening meals but they looked and smelt very nice.
Great selection at breakfast, hot and cold, well cooked and laid out.
Parking was busy at times but it was the Jubilee double bank holiday and Malham Animal Safari (don't ask).
Plenty of games in the Lounge, giant Jenga, giant connect four...giant seems to be the theme, giant chess as well.

Pub next door serves a decent pint too.
