We came away for a couple of nights away after a difficult few months- and were certainly not been disappointed with our choice of Inn. From the discussions over the phone and booking procedures (which we made complicated by wanting a quiet room/bath for our 11 mth old) to the check in, at dinner and breakfast the staff were fantastic. This is an exceptionally friendly and stylish Inn in a gorgeous location, the rooms are spot on and the food is delicious. It's not pretentious and my husband was impressed by their range of well kept Thwaites cask ales- it's just a shame we had to cut short our 2 night stay as our son is teething and we didn't want to impose him on other diners/ people staying over. However Rachel the Manager was excellent and very accommodating with our change of plans. We will be back next month on our own and are looking forward to it already!

We have just spent two nights at the Lister Arms, at a really good Winter bed and breakfast rate, and really can't fault it. The staff were really friendly and the location superb. The weather wasn't good, however, we and our dirty, wet dogs were still made to feel relaxed and welcome in the bar. This is the second Thwaites Inn we have visited and have to say they really have the dog friendly thing off to a fine art, great little pub!

Room Tip: We had room 9 which was next to the fire escape and was really good for getting the dogs out early

Stayed for 2 nights in February 2014 in the Cottage Classic Room (11). The minute we walked in we were made to feel welcome and relaxed. The room was spacious with fabulous decor and facilities. Food was excellent. Many walks in this outstanding area, hotel central to all round-trip walks. A short walk, 3 mile round trip, to Janet's Floss and Gardale Scar, had fantastic waterfall views and was reasonably easily accessible.

Room Tip: I can imagine Room 11 being noisy in the summer as it opens out onto the bear garden.

Loved it. Peaceful, beautifully, warmly decorated (though it does need a new stair carpet). Perfect staff - kindly but not intrusive. Superb breakfast and very, very good, reasonably priced evening meal. Log fires, fabulous walks from the door. Brilliant place

Room Tip: We had a room over the front. Mid week that was fine, but as it was also over the bar, it might hav...

Had a lovely stay here Feb 2014. The staff are all very friendly. Our room was excellent, warm and very clean. We were made very welcome, including our dog (bowls of water in the bar). The food was lovely, so was the beer. Good atmosphere during the evening with well a tended log fire. Breakfast too was excellent, with a table laid for us in the bar, so our dog could be with us. Shame we had to leave but will be back.

Whilst staying in the area for a couple of days, a group of 5 of us popped in here mid morning for coffee and biscuits, to be met by friendly staff, a blazing fire and a cosy atmosphere. We enjoyed our brief visit so much that we went back the next day for lunch. At first glance, the sandwiches appeared rather expensive, but they were absolutely delicious. Bacon, brie and cranberry was absolutely delicious, with plenty of good quality bacon and served with a little pot of coleslaw and small salad. One of us had ham and picallilli and the ham was good thick cut decent ham. The soup was also delicious. ~Good beers as well. Would definitely recommend popping in here.
